Hello everyone, I recently bought an 85 nissan maxima, and i had a few questions about the keyless entry keypad, and problems with the sunroof. this site, and your comments to other people questions quikly answered mine. you guys kick ***! thanks alot, i really apreciate it. now for my question, i was wondering if anybody has dealt much with this stock radio, mine has the cassette playerwith equalizer, since its a kinda cool setup i figured id keep it for a while as it still sounds decent, problem is i gotta have some bass... any ideas as to how i might go about hooking up an amp to that stock stereo, im somewhat familiar with car audio, however i have never hooked up an amp. to a stereo w/out pre-amp plugs. i would greatly apreciate anyhelp on this subject, great site and thanks again,

The other option is to get an amp with speaker-level inputs. In either case, you will almost need to completely disbale the rear speakers, and use those leads to feed the signal to the amp or converter.
Word of warning, the sound quality will suffer with either method, over using tru line-level rca jacks...esecially over using high voltage 2-5v signals, on shielded, twisted pair patch cords...but if absolute sound quality is not a goal, and all you want is a little more power, and some more bass, this is one route to take...

Let's face it, the stock system sucks. Weak power, only 5 presets, no remote, lousy display, and NO CD PLAYER!!!
However, you do have an option if you want to keep a stock look. Get the Pioneer FH-P 8800. It's a double din sized head unit, so it will fit the entire space and not require an installation kit. Also, it's got a niced brushed aluminum look, so it looks perfect in the 2nd gen. It's a very good head unit, it's got lots of features and options, so it will cost you. It retails for $1000, however I've seen them on ebay for around $500. And if you still listen to casettes, it does have a casette player in addition to the CD player.

alright...check it...
IF ya still wanna stick with the Stock-Block Entertainment here is what ya gotta do.
Ya gonna have to buy all four speakers new with high-end materials and high powered RMS ratings and frequency ranges.
Then ya gotta get amps not one but two! Also an amp wire kit(s).
Then ya make sure the amps fits your needs and speakers.
Then ya get one those amps that should have speaker-level inputs, that way ya connect the speaker wires to the amp to get input, duh.
As that setup is through, you piggy back an other amp off the first amp you just hooked up, which should feature speaker-level input AND extra pre-amp output to connect other amps. The second amp that's hooked up to first would be used for the sub (if ya gonna get one) and the first would be used for the speakers.
Yeah this may be complicated in some what, but if wanna blueprint this system out do so. Or check wit a specialist. I can hook ya up if I lived close by, but ya know.
This is probably one of the best ways to get loud sound from ya SBE (Stock Block Entertainment). The best recommendation I can say is a total new complete system. Ya may have to sacrafice ya SBE stereo, but hey lighten up ya get over it and fall in love with ya new one!
Good Luck........DeJa Vu....ya name sounds familiar!
Peace.

Jayfresh....thank you! thats pretty much what i wanted to hear, i dunno what i was thinking, the preamps on a second amp seems so obvious now, i know a bit about stereo installs n stuff but sometimes you just need anothers input to kick your head in gear, so thanks alot. and the only reason i wanna keep the SBE (thanks for the new term bro) is cause i dont wanna transfer the system out of my old car yet, i still may be able to fix the car (bad tranny) i got two "15`s ,set of 6x9s and 6 1x2s up front, all in a little suzuki swift, (think geo metro). but i gotta have a system, plus, the stock system is still in such good shape it would be sad ta take it out...anyway, thanks again..
first off my suzuki has got a 4banger, its a 1.3 as opposed to the geo`s 1 liter. so its a quik car cause its light, plus my suzuki had a manual tranny, now as much as i like my maxima its got an automatic...plus who says i cant have two cars??
YEah but....
Jayfresh has told you HOW to do it with the stock radio but...
Any soundsystem is only as good as it's weakest component. In this case that would be the stock headunit. If you're going to be installingtwo amps, changing all the speakers and such, keeping the stock headunit really doesn't make much sense.
The Headunit is where you get the source for all the sound, so typically you want a good source.
I wa considering keeping the stock stereo and working around it, but it's just not worth the hassels considering what it'll give me.
Instead, the top din slot will have an aftermarket radio, and the bottom din will probably be used for an EQ and some switches.
Just my 0.02$ (CDN).. lol
