Radiator Cap loosened by itself??

Yesterday I was driving around, and after a while pull up in my friends driveway, shut off the car, and open the door and see smoke everywhere from under my car, then I smell coolant.

I open the hood and there is coolant sprayed everywhere, I couldnt tell where it was coming from at first. I let it cool off then we inspected it, and the radiator cap wasnt on tight!

I havent even opened the hood in probably 2 months! I dont know how it could have come loose.

Also, while the hood was opened, I noticed the black cover that bolts on to the top of the engine block was gone! Frickin dealer must not have put it back on when they worked on it back in October. Im sure they will give me **** when I try to tell them they didnt put it back on..

Damn man, that sucks. I'd bet that it was the dealer who did that. You'd think that stuff like that wouldn't happen at the dealer, but I guess anywhere you go you will always have the "human factor". And you're probably right, unless you take it to a really, REALLY good dealer (there aren't many around), they will probably give you the run around on it. I wish you the best on it though. I just don't think it's possible for that stuff to come loose on its own.

Took our pathfinder in for that. They pressure checked the cooling system for an hour, no leaks... then said, well we have seen leaking/loose radiator caps lately. So, I'm just supposed to watch it and let them know if theres a problem. Freakin dorks, of course there is, thats why I brought it in and wasted 1/2 a day! ugh
