So I hadn't used my air-conditioner for a while until this weekend when it was fairly warm and when I turned it on there was a really loud buzzing sound, worse as I turned it up and at "4" the whole dash was shaking. It sounded like the vent fan crapped out on me. It being Saturday I didn't want to wait around til Monday to take it to the nearest dealership so I removed the glove box compartment and unscrewed the fan and what did I find!....there was all types of crap stuck in the fan....a wad of paper towel, cigerette butts, leaves, and more cigerette butts!WTF! I just want to know how all that $hit got in there? It must have been sucked up from underneath. Am I missing a cover or screen or it there one.

 

The inlet for fresh air is your cowling. Thats right below the wipers. When the system is on Rec, it pulls air from around the passenger foot area. A filter available for 5th gens goes after the blower assembly. I can't see how that much stuff could possibly get in your fan?

I would suggest you stop smoking, it's bad for your health!
