Buying Maxima

Hi
I just signed up t this board but have been visiting for years. I may be buying a 1992 manual se. It is in very good condition fully loaded. The owner states that it has 80,000 miles but that is suspect. According to carfax it has only had 3,100 miles pu on it in the last 2.5 years. I can get it for $3500, it has a $2000 sound system in it. Will have brand new tires put on, has a new clutch. Has a couple of minor problems: weak hand brake, foglights do not work among other things. I know that these cars are somewhat hard to find.
I owned an 88 that was wrecked last year and spent months looking for a nice 92-94 se but had no luck.
Is there anything i should look for when I check it out and is $3500 a good price considering its questionable history.
Thanks
Adam

check it out and drive it. Make sure you ask about the "questionable" mileage. And good luck. If it turns out to be OK, and you dont get it then..............

you

max

something does not sound right. If I were to put a $2000 sys. into my car, I will not sell the low mileage car for $3500, or $1500 for the car minus the system. Iam guessing that they probably disconnected the odometer cable.

If u are getting a car from an elder, then the low mileage can be justify. But, elders I don't think will put in a $2000 sys.

I saw this car for sale on ebay. I wondered why he would sell it so cheap with 2k worth of stereo on it. Are you close enough to actually look and drive the car and have a mechanic look at it?

My two cents worth....

Re: max

Its hard to say about milage. I mean I have only driven my 93 max about 1500 miles in the last year...actually probably less than that. I have a company car and my wife has a max too so I dont drive the 93 that much. Now when I am finished with it I will probably drive it a lot more.

good thing I didn't see that. I would have been on the plane in 12 hours. My '92 is parked for the winter, but I'll put about 5K on it again next summer....

The buy-it-now price was awesome. I cannot believe that it lasted that long. I _would_ have bought it had I seen it.

With a price that cheap, it's no wonder. If the car was legit, then I can understand that it would sell fast. I has the car in my watch list because I wanted to see how long it would last. I particularly didn't like the color, but who cares. It had a cracked sunroof also. Not sure if that meant the glass, but I would assume so. Looks like the owner stopped the auction. It had zero bids, maybe he sold it locally.

Still a good car though if the mileage is accurate.

92 maxima

The owner said that they stopped using the car when they bought a new car in 2000. I did not believe them, but they lowered the price to $3500 so i figured it was worth the risk. I was sapposed to look at it monday night but the they sold it that afternoon. I think something was wrong with the car anyway.
