Nissans Poor material choices

Ok i found out today while putting my cat back on for smoag that the reason my shifter fell down and was rubbing on the heat shield is that the only thing holding the whole shifter and shifter rods up into the car is a single bolt going into some sort of hard rubber. soooooo to fix that i have to jack up my car again and replace the ENTIRE opening into the car. luckily its only about $20 at tustin nissan. im ****ed

so you're here to say that you're upset that a part on your car only lasted 13-14 years? may be a poor choice in your opinion but i'm sure the engineers made the part out of rubber for good reason.

$8 dollars isn't exactly what i'll call "f--ing". Afterall you didnt shop around to see if it was cheaper anywhere. Kaleb helps a lot of people out whenever he can, and it's not his job to reduce prices for people who dont ask. Sorry but I just had to get that out since it sounded kind of rude and demeaning to Kaleb.

about those 8 bucks...well umm...lets say right now they are a big deal for me...i know that sounds cheap...but my situation aint great right now so it matters somewhat...but you're right...not really best choice of words there.

oh hey Kaleb...no offense intended.

that's why i love the org. almost everyone is very mature about stuff, which is a big plus Okay, back to the topic: is it a normal thing for the shifter to fall? or is it among autos? Kinda scary, lol cos I drive 150miles everyday and dont want my shifter to fall on the freeway lol. I need a newer car: 183k miles on a car and putting 750miles on it a week isn't really assuring.

mine's a 5-speed. You can actually move the shifter up and down quite a bit cuz of the broken bracket!! but shifting is still not a problem...it shifts perfectly.
dont know if the autos would have the same problem.

Broken Shifter Boot

Yeah I dont think that it would happen to a auto. The 5-speed boot take a lot more abuse. I also think that the 5-speed shifter is more xposed from under the car (never seen an undercarage of an auto). My boot broke on my car and I left it alone for a couple of months and it didnt really bother me at all. I used a hagger to fix it so thats something you could do drstillpatient.

Consider yourself lucky you got it for that much. I think I paid a little over $60 from a Nissan dealer here in Northern California.

After looking at my invoice I realized that I got the holder bracket for $43.17. I don't know why I was thinking it was sooo high.

i got mine for 56 list and 30 net. (tustin nissan) put it in yesterday. If you ever end up replacing that whole housing it would be a good time to get a short shifter cuz u have to take the shifter off to do it.

heres how it goes. . . jack up the car and remove the catalytic converter. Remove the heat shield. (5 phillips/10mm screws) You will then see 4 bolts around the outside of the pieces yiou are replacing. remove. (remeber wich bolts go where with what washers there all different) remove the little spring you see conecting the 2 shifter rods. remove the 4 bolts on the bottom piece of the shifter. Pry/lift the top part of the shifter off the bottom. at this point everything should be really loose. push the shifter up through the whole it is shoved into. (will be extreamly difficult you will figure it out) no that theres enough clearence take the old metel housing thing out and put everything back together. Once you get under there and look you will be able to figure it out. It might help to have another person on top in the car so they can wiggle/push/pull shifter around. i hope that helps!
