New to the board, in the market for a 00 maxima!

Hey guys whats up, I'm currently driving a 6 speed manualed conversion Caprice Ex-cop car, that runs high 13s....

Its got 156k on it,(thats right, thats not a misprint or a lie, it runs 13s with 156k!) and im just getting sick of keeping it maintained in genral. I LOVE these 5th gens.

I'm going to go shopping for a 5th gen, 00 or 01, but im worried Im not going to get the same speed and feel that my car has.

my car really moves and handles awesome for a 4300lb sled..

convince me guys!

Get a 2k2 or 2k3. If you are concerned about power, then the 3.5 is your only option. Getting a 3.0 would make no sense for you unless you plan to drop in a turbo or sc.

Well a 5 speed 00-01 maxima wont get you anywhere near 13s stock. In fact theres a good chance you may not even get out of the 15s stock. The handling in the 2k-2k1s is better than the 2k2+ stock, but still sucks. It needs better tires and at least a rear sway bar.

My car has very very few problems and I love it. It isnt the quickest car out there, but it definitely gets the job done for me. Good luck with whatever you decide.

thats a little "rich" for my blood. I was doing some searching, and I'm seeing plenty of 00's or 01s running low 14 second times without too many mods.

when my car was a low 14 car, it was nice.. how much work to get one of these cars to run in this area of time?

With every bolt on, intake, y-pipe, test pipe/cat, cat-back exhaust, and a UDP, you might be into the low 14s.

Its not a goal to get it a low 14 sec car, id like it to be respectably quick, i dont want to have to beat on it, to get up to speed on the onramp for the highway everyday...

Then the max is a great car. Even my auto can do that.

I was in the exact same situation as you: I drove (and still have it) a hefty 86 Monte SS. I swore i was going to stick to RWD, but nothing out there of course is reasonibly priced and RWD. I loved the 5th Gen's since they came out, so i found one and took it for a test drive last month. I loved the 5 speed, so i bought it. So far, no disappointments

Good kick! -Mike-

Since stock manual 02-03 Maxima can run in the 14s, 02-03 would be the logical choice to get it modified to run in the 13s. 04 is coming in Spring so there will be deals for the remaining 03s.
