Grinding sound when car starts

Lately my car has been making a grinding noise when i turn my key in the ignition. Sometimes it wont turn over the first time but have no problem the second time. I first noticed it when using my automatic starter, the engine would grind and not start. Is this a serious problem? Or does it just have to do with the auto starter??

sounds to me like you need a new starter.

I hope thats it, because it has been rediculously cold here in boston, ma but with my luck its most likely something worse than that! And if its the starter how much would that cost?

definitely your starter. Had the same problems jan of 2k2. got a replacement from oreilly under lifetime warranty. replaced it about 4times under that. pretty easy to do yourself. I believe it was the cold weather and snow that triggered it. didnt seem to like temps of 15 and below.

How did you get a lifetime warranty from orielly, i dont know what that is?? Is that on all starters?? Does the cold completely ruin the starter or will it be ok when it starts to get warmer out??
