VG30 help
ok, im installing a new timing belt on a SOHC VG30 and I think I messed up the timing. I had the timing perfect on it until I took the belt tensioner off which I forgot it would make the cam sprokets get out of place. what would be the best way of timing it.

There are alignment marks on both of the cam sprockets and on the crank sprocket. Before you start you are suppose to align these to the marks on the head and block. This places the #1 piston at top dead center of it compression stroke. You now have to confirm that #1 piston is at top dead center of it compression stroke which will put the crank sprocket on those alignment marks(Warning: The crank sprocket can be on the alignment mark at both TDC of the compression stroke and the exhaust stroke...make sure you got the right one ...Rotor in distributor should be pointing at the #1 wire...#1 cyl. is the back passenger side). You then can put the cam sprockets on their alignment marks and presto. Another check is the number of timing belt teeth between the timing marks on the sprockets. there are 40 teeth between the LH and RH camshaft sprockets and 43 teeth between the LH camshaft sprocket and the crank sprocket. Good Luck!!
