ppl with Injen beware!

My car would hesitate when I go WOT and it is not RPM dependant, meaning, it just freakin does it out of nowhere. So I checked for air leaks and couldn't find any. Took everything apart and started looking into the holes for the vacuum hoses and look at what I found.

(sorry for the bad pic, camera won't focus)

This is like leftover crap from the welds, the size of little rocks. And the picture was taken after I shoved my pinky in there and grabbed a **** load of it out already. There was also a lot of black dust which somebody said was left over from the polishing process. So that's what my car been sucking in for the past few weeks

You should always inspect everythign before it goes on your car~! I always do..i cleaned my intake pipe with soap n' water before i put it on, and dried it throughly. I would inspect the flters for any tears. The same goes for any DIY job. You cant always trust the company to clean up. Its all up to you.

Absolutely! I had to file metal burs off my Frankencar before install.

Not only about dirt..but most of our stuff is made by hand....fabricated, assembled etc. Please dont tell me you inspect welds and such. Steve @ Franken car helped me out. I bought one of his intakes, had 2 pinhole spots in the weld. Talked to him, he send me another one a.s.a.p. so I wouldn't have any down time. Awesome guy, yes he does get backed up. But hes great! I've talked to many times...helped him with his stereo. Not to plug him or anything. I just dont want ppl to think he has poorly made stuff.

Ya, that was stupid of me to not check it throughly before installing. I cleaned it out, put everything back in and the car is running smooth... so I guess I lucked out

The hesitation started as soon as I put it in. It would happen sporadically. On one run, it would be smooth and then next, there would be a lag. But I drove the car after I cleaned everything and it hasn't hesitated yet... so I guess that was the cause.

The large pipe had burs from the hole made to fit it. A quick file and it was fixed. Don't worry so much about backing Steve, I have no problems with his products.

It's normal for the most part. When it comes to stuff for the intake, the welds are hardly ever done flawlessly.. you gotta run the ol' soap n' water routine. That's what I did to mine. You should check out your TB for further cleaning.

Is this the mid-pipe I'm looking at? If so, I'd be VERY concerned that metal debris has made it's way into the motor itself. Talk about significant damage. Just take a moment and think about how many places this metal will go thru before making it's way out, assuming it did get out and not get lodged or melted somewhere in the motor.

Yes, its the midpipe... That's the hole for the big vacuum hose. The stuff is not metal, more like solder... I can break up the pieces with my finger. Atleast its behind the MAF so those pieces didn't have a chance to run into it and jack it up.

Make sure you drain the oil asap but save some for an oil analysis in case there's significant metal shavings in your motor.

metal shavings

WOW I always inspect parts before they go on, but Injen shouldn't asume everyone does. They should be ready to install when they get to your door.

Absolutely!

Do we inspect the belts on our tires before we drive on them? How about checking for contamination in the oil we use to change with?

Exageration but metal burs and loose welds are a lack of quality control!

Hey now... Jeff was being a pioneer. He was one of the first (if not the first) with the Injen. If it wasn't for him we wouldn't know how much they suck. Just kiddin' guys, I've never even seen one so don't personally.
