Driver's Side Power Seat Broken

I thought for sure that I wouldn't be the first to have this happen but nothing came up in the search. My driver's seat doesn't want to move front or back. The back of the seat tilts foward and back fine. The seat moves up and down fine. But the seat itself doesn't move foward and back. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I guess when I bring the car to Nissan for the 22,000 mile oil change in March I will have to have them take a look at it. Luckily it's still under warranty.

Make sure the tracks are clear. Do you hear any sort of motor soundings? If not, maybe something has become disconnected or there is a short in the line. I suggest you take it to Nissan because I doubt anyone can really help you with the mechanics of it here.

TSB

Make: NISSAN Model: MAXIMA Year: 2002

Service Bulletin Number: NTB02001C Bulletin Sequence Number: 633 Date of Bulletin: 07/02

NHTSA Item Number: 633662
Component: INTERIOR SYSTEMS:TRACKS AND ANCHORS:FRONT SEAT:POWER ADJUSTING
Summary:
SUBJECT REGARDING DRIVERS POWER SEAT WILL NOT MOVE FORWARD OR BACKWARD. *JG

Pmas76,
This might help to solve your problem, bring a copy of it to the service manager when you go in for service. A "Technical Service Bulletin" is issued by auto manufacturer's to their service departments when there is a repeated problem that shows up on a particular model. The problem may affect only cars built between a certain time frame or in the case of the rear window wind leak, all cars built within certain model years.
Good Luck.
This is the link to all TSB's issued by manufacturers to the government for various products, check it out:

Re: TSB

Thanks EYE for the help.

I donj't have the exact info, just the description. You have to join/pay for the full deal unless someone has gotten it and scanned it. But it's a known issue evidently!

Has anyone had this problem lately? I hit 60k miles and just started having this problem on my 01 SE last week. At the moment, its stuck in the fully back position. When I moved the front plug around a bit, I was able to get power back to the seat and move it. Now, however, that strategy isn't working. What do you guys think?

I have a 2002 GLE (110K miles) I bought used in May 2007. I had no such problem until just two months ago. Exactly as described, all seat functions work except forward/reverse. I can hear the relay "click" when I push the switch either direction, but no motor sound. Does anyone know if all seat motions are controlled by one motor, or by separate motors?

First, search around because their are lots of detailed threads regarding this issue.

Second, their are two tracks that run on each side of the seat. On these rails, ride little bushings, and these are the parts that wear out. Call Dave B at Southpoint Nissan in Austin, Tx. He will know what you need and give you a great price.

Or, try tapping on the motor with the fat end of a screwdriver.

turn off the auto seat-rollback thing that moves the seat back when you pull the key out. the more you use the motor, the more it wears. if you dont share your car, just leave the seat in the spot u use it 24/7.

Yes, this happened to me (about 2 years ago).

On mine, the seat dug into the rubber stop until it eventually burned out.

This is the replacement motor part from the TSB:

TSB's don't expire. But the dealer won't fix the car for free. A TSB is not a recall or a guarantee or a warrantee. It is just a piece of information.

I just fixed my power seat yesterday! I ordered the part listed in the TSB and completed the repair exactly as written in the TSB instructions. The replacement part kit comes with a new wire, so you don't need to remove and reuse your existing wire.

It was an easy fix, even for me and I'm far from mechanically inclined. If anyone has any Q's, just ask. Took me about 1.5hrs. I bought the parts at Wholesale parts USA - $231 incl shipping to CA.

Never got your email...sorry. I don't have a phone number for them, but here's a link to the part at Wholesale parts USA

http://www.wholesalepartsusa.com/par...&siteid=215058

If you just follow the TSB using the parts in that kit, you'll be fine. If you can't get it from Wholesale parts USA, just try Courtesy Nissan.

So I tried the link I sent you and its not working. Just go to wholesalepartsusa.com and put in that part number into their search engine. Indicate Nissan and the brand. It came up when I tried it.

To the OP, I have a copy of that TSB (revised version NTB02-001d) that I can email you if interested. I'm not sure if there is a place to post documents like that on these forums and don't mind doing it if there is.

Edit: I forgot about the Owens family website. They have a decent collection of TSB's.

Found the TSB at:
http://maxima.theowensfamily.com/tsb/NTB02-001d.pdf

For wholesalepartsusa.com use the part number search at the bottom, enter part as 87562c9926 (w/ Nissan box). $226 plus $24 shipping.

I tried the brush repair idea but no luck, the gear box barely turns.
Will order the c9926 this weekend.

Thanks for everyone's help with this.

They say misery loves company but that's not the case here. The drivers seat on my '02 does not come forward. It's usually only me driving so I've been living with it. I guess I'll continue to live with it rather than pay $231 to fix it myself. The car wash guys aren't happy though!
