Advice on new paint job
Advice on new paint job
I was hoping someone could help me out with a decision. Sorry about not searching first, but I am currently in Afghanistan and the server is slow slow. I am planning on getting a new paint job when I return (paint chips on hood and body kit matches poorly). How much should I look to pay for a quality (factory-like) paintjob? I've heard $2000 for the same color and up to $5000 for a complete different color. I am actually wanting a whole new color. Can someone help me out here? Also, if you can recommend a place near VA Beach, even D.C area, that would be great. Thanks, guys. Killing the Taliban slowly but surely!

I'm not an expert on paint jobs but $2k and up sounds about right. My friend who's been restoring a '79 Trans Am spent $2k on MATERIALS alone. He painted the car himself and that $2k is the best money he's put into the car - it looks friggin SWEET. It's almost like you could reach into the hood - the paint job is that gorgeous.
You'll pay more for a different color obviously because they will paint all the door jams and such. A lot of the money you spend will be in the prep work. Lousy prep work will yield you a lousy job. You don't want over spray on your muffler! (I've seen jobs like that and they're a joke!)
Just like most things - you get what you pay for! Unless you're looking to paint the car just to sell it, spend what you can to ensure a good job.
Good luck..........

All I can tell you is what I saw at the Nissan dealership where they *tried* to paint some poor guys pearl white car... It was seriously nasty. I'm assuming you have pearl now.
I've heard 2K as a good estimate too. I think what you consider a *good* paint job will certainly have alot to do with price. I'm pretty picky, I think they would charge me 5K for the same color

My dad had a '91 Cadillac Allante (their attempt at competing w/ the Benz SL) and the pearl paint was an extra $750. We got the car used but it had the original window sticker in the glove box so that's how I know.
Just cracks me up when people think they can get a decent paint job for like $250. Maaco to the rescue!!!
