My 85 Maxima shifts from 1st to 2nd, but not on to 3rd. The shift linkage seems pretty vague. I have to sort of hunt for reverse, which works fine. The car probably has a broken motor mount on the back side of the motor.

I have another 85 transaxle from a very cherry Max that I rolled a couple of years ago (the strut mounts broke under hard braking at highway speed, I lost steering accuracy, and rolled in the ditch). I wonder if this transaxle will work after piling into the embankment under power.

Is there some way I can get the one in the car to shift? Is there any way to tell if the one in the garage will work, short of installing it? Has anybody had luck combining parts from them? And, What other transaxles (newer) will fit, and will the axles fit?
