New prices on Cattman Performance Y-pipe, KYBs, etc.
New prices on Cattman Performance Y-pipe, KYBs, etc.
We've recently gotten a better deal on our fabrication and are able to pass along some price savings on our 1995-2001 Cattman Y-pipes. Obviously not the cheapest out there, and with their superior quality of design, materials and workmanship they never will be, but if you want the best, the new price is US$350 (CDN$540*).
I've got my fingers crossed that the new 02-03 pipe that we've completed development on will be available before the end of February. Intro price will be $325 (CDN$505*) for the first 50 units.
[Let me save someone the trouble, and just say the Canadian Budget pipe is LOTS cheaper, etc., etc. I've decided to buy one and take some comparative pictures of various features so we can put the fantasy to rest that they are equal in quality and features. If you feel that characteristics like merge collectors, flanges that are welded to the pipe, etc. are unimportant and price is the only important feature, just buy the Budget -- see, no further comments necessary. Budget is also said to offer good customer service, which is rare enough and I won't take anything away from them for that, but I'll also note that our US order line is open 8-5MST, M-F and we're known for our regular, "near book-length" email responses.]
Business is good and we're buying in more volume these days, so I can also pass along some savings on our KYB AGX struts. Price reduced -$25 to $355 (CDN$550*) from $380 on the 1995-1999 parts and to $425 (CDN$655*) from $450 on the only properly adapted AGXs available for the 2000-2003 Maxima/I30. We're down to a few sets of the 2000+, but will have more soon. Plenty of the 1995-1999 sets on hand, and those great KYB dust boots as well ($50 / CDN$78*) with strut order).
To go with those struts, we're offering a Progress Springs / KYB AGX package at $500 (CDN$775*) for the 1995-1999s and $550 (CDN$850*)for the 2000-2003. These parts were made for each other, its a real sweet handling combination. Don't learn the hard way that stock struts, or near-stock struts like the Tokicos and KYB GR-2s, don't provide satisfactory results with any lowering springs.
Should be able to announce some other price reductions as the next few days go by. As I've posted in another thread, our Cattman-Progress RSB for the 1995-2003 Maximas are reduced, at least for the month of February, to $110 including shipping to anywhere in the continental 48 states(CDN$147, but does not include shipping).
BTW, the Maxima header project has not died, I'm just real busy (and also trying to determine if they will physically fit the VQ35DE). Emissions issues with those will probably require some experimentation and I may try to find a customer who can champion that. Looks like they will probably feature HPC ceramic-coating as a cost-effective compromise that will still offer nearly all the power and corrosion-effectiveness of stainless steel.
[*Prices in Canadian currency are approximate and will float with the exchange rate.]

what kind of drop do the progress springs give, and are the prone to sagging (like many of the other inexpensive springs.)

But on the topic of inexpensive springs... to the customer's benefit, the ONLY thing that's cheap about these is the price, they are a fantastic value. These springs are the equal of any available and are warranteed for life by Progress Technology, which develops and twists these up themselves in-house, not like the cheap ones that are purchased in bulk from the lowest bidder and relabelled by companies that don't know anything about spring engineering or quality materials.
I've been selling them for two years on my own and through other Maxima specialists, and have never heard a single complaint about sagging. Customers love them and they seem to be the perfect match with the AGXs. I'll put them up against any of the German or Japanese springs available; be practical, why pay a premium for something just because it's imported?
Brian C Catts
As someone else offered, the Progress Technology Springs lower the car 1.7" in front 1.5" in the rear -- the ideal amount in my opinion. More than that and you will certainly risk bottoming out.

Well, I'm caught up on a small flood of email, but can't seem to connect your forum name to your email identity -- didn't run across anything from a "clipse" ;-)
If you sent that to any of my US-based addresses, bcatts@earthlink.net or the cattman.com addresses it will be manually forwarded within a few hours. If you want to reach me directly, send to my NZ address at bcatts@xtra.co.nz

Even if they could comehow be compressed, I suspect that it would dangerous and probably illegal to ship them that way. Apart from that, the packaging wouldn't allow them to be combined and as heavy as both are, I don't think they'd ship well together in any kind of box.

Not sure what is meant by compressed -- the lower spring perch is part of the strut, of course, but there's nothing to captivate the top of the spring, those parts are separate, hence nothing to compress the spring between.

All other components are a part of your car and carry over from the stock set.

Nothing else is needed, other than trimming the strut sleeves about .4" (1cm) under the stock front upper mount so that the threaded end of the strut rod can stick out enough to secure the top nut (the threaded end of your stock struts is longer than the 95-99 struts are). We include instructions. Some choose to just swap in 95-99 front upper mounts (buy from your dealer or us) during installation.

The 2k+ cali spec s/s Y-pipe has been reduced in price to $350. As I note in the original post, it isn't the cheapest, but given what the materials, sophistication of design and our fabrication methods, how could it possibly be? BTW, at Cattman Performance, there is ONLY a stainless steel version. Anything less would be not good enough.
