Clarion Amp Problem - Repair sought

I have a factory Clarion speaker/amp set-up on my '92 Maxima. It has one rear amp for both 6-1/2" speakers. Is there a DIY repair for the problem of crackling speakers at any vol setting? My search didn't show anything for Clarion systems. The fix I ws previously forwarded was for a Bose system but, no doubt this would differ for a Clarion single-amp system.
Anyone familiar with this problem and can direct me to a solution?

i had a question related to this. i also have a non bose system in my 93 gxe and it has an external amp for the speakers. my question is, does that mean that the stock headunit is not amplified? can i splice into the wires before between the headunit and the external amp to get a low level input so i can feed that into another amp to run a sub instead of using the highlevel inputs?

sorry i couldnt help on your question. if you hear cracking noises at high levels, or like a flapping noise, it might be that the surrounds on your speakers have torn and its flapping around. thats what happened to mine because i like bass and i like it loud and after about 10 years, that foam just goes to heck.

thanx

I thought of this too a few months back. I started to wire everything up and then I never bought an amp to try it out on. Im pretty sure it should work though. It makes sense to me at lease.

Well....if it sounds distorted at any volume, try to change the speakers in the car. The stock speakers are made of paper and can easly rip. When they rip they sound like poop at all times. I also found that the ground wire was bad (stock radio shares ground with other electronics) because the radio would make a whining noise when I gave my car gas.I had that system in my car and replaced it. The radio powers the front speakers and the rear amp powers the rear deck speakers. If you decide to change the radio you must rewire the rear speakers. Take it from there and see what you come up with.
