How to get some *sswipe to admit they backed into your hood when parallel parking?
How to get some *sswipe to admit they backed into your hood when parallel parking?
Maybe one you guys has gone through this kind of thing before.
I parked on the street last night and left a small car's space in front of me so someone else could park between me and the other car. Well I go out to take out the trash later last night and some big *** SUV is parked on that small space, I think to myself this dumas had to have hit me. I go check it out, but I did not see anything. This morning though, when I was leaving I saw a big ding on the tip of my hood where no doubt that fool backed his raised POS on my MAX . I know I can find him/her again because I know the car, but how do I get them to admit it? I will appreciate any help

If you cannot get them to admit guilt in a semi-polite way you will just have chalk it up as bad luck.
BTW My Durango would amaze you on its parallel parking abilities.
Just get him/her to simulate the encounter,
meaning idle up to the SUV to the point of almost-contact and see if there is a match between the ding on the hood and a protrusion on the SUV.
Was there paint damage or just a ding? If there was paint damage, perhaps some paint transfer ocurred and there's some on the SUV, right on that offending protrusion

really depends on the other owner, and how honest s/he is.... you can ask if s/he remembers parking in that small spot, make a big deal out of how you were impressed the big SUV fit. If s/he admits remembering, pull your max up to the back and see if you can get a spot on the SUV to line up with the ding on your hood and say "I think you did this that night."
there is a chance the SUV owner has no idea s/he hit your car. Or s/he knows and might admit it and offer some money if confronted. As they say on The Practice... "it's POSSIBLE" (but good luck)

You can try as one member suggested, just asking the person to come outside and have a look at what they did to your car in a nice civil fashion and see what comes of it.
This is no good for me as I live in NYC (alot of crazy fools here) and I know the SUV owner lives in my neighborhood, but I've never seen him/her to approach them. Either way DON'T key their car, even though I am/was tempted to put brake fluid on his/her chrome ram bar.

What Galo said. You need proof and taking a pic with your car right up near the SUV's backend is a start. Then take a pic of the space that you were in and how close the suv would have been to be able to park there. But bascily you have to get the person to admit they they did it. If they don't not much you can do. Take it up w/ your insurance company and see what they say.
I guess if the person doesn't admit it(and if you are damn sure it was that person's suv), you can say "well that's fine, I'm gonna file a hit and run with the police and give all the information I have so far". "I'll let them handle it from there". "I'm sorry but I'm obligated to try to find the person who hit me before letting my insurance company pay for something I'm not repsonsible for".
Tell that person you will be doing this by the end of the next day so that person has a chance to fess up and take responsiblity. Which is what you really want anyway.

First try the polite tactic on the SUV owner, and when/if they deny it, tell them you watched them hit your car. Make sure you do your lining up with their back end before all this takes place and take pictures w/ a digital camera. If they continue to stall or whatever (after you're certain they actually hit it with that vehicle), tell the SUV owner you're going to the police to file a hit and run charge with the SUV's tag information. Now, this is a lie, and don't lie to the police, but you can lie to the SUV owner (if you're certain they did it, and have the matching back end/front damage pictures to prove). They'll capitulate. It's not the nicest way to get it done, but it works. Hopefully they will be honest and just pay to have it fixed w/ out involving the insurance companies.
