Springs: Which Are The Best For Their Cost?

I'm doing a little research for a friend of mine with a 5th gen.
Which springs are the best for the 5th gen in regards to performance, quality, and cost?

any help is appreciated.

thanx

I really like my Sprint springs. 2" drop that the 5th gens need and only around 150-160. The ride is nice and handling is improved over stock.

Try a search on springs....but bang for the buck would likely be Maxspeeds.

Most guys are getting sets of four for around $100. + shipping if I'm not mistaken.

I've been keeping an eye on this topic for a few months as well, as I'm interested in upgrading in the future too.

I'd go with Maxspeed at this point if it were my $$$.

Now the shocks are another story -- most guys are waiting for KYB to release an OEM replacement for the 5th gens.

Tokico Blues seem to be the other viable alternative for a similar ride quality to stock without a huge sacrifice in ride quality.

Verdict is still out on stock vs. upgraded shocks with Hi perf. springs.....but safe bet is to do them ALL at the same time.
good luck.

We could do this all day, I guess. Just so you know... I didn't intend to be a smart-a$$ with my first response. My intention was to be funny. That being said... you've obviously been a member here long enough to know how to use the search feature.

i know. no hard feelings! i just couldn't resist...lol
i know about the search.
but i find it doesn't help for finding opinions. however i'm sure after searching for a while i'd find something close to what i was looking for.

then i guess i'll jump in and ask
has anyone had sprints for awhile and can give me a review on them
reason i ask is because people get nervous paying little for a big drop. so we wonder, is it simply a good deal, or are we lookin at cheap springs with a big drop, but eventually, you get bad ride quality. don't get me wrong, i'd get sprints in a second, but a long term review would really help. them being new, it's hard to get some true reviews on them.

I've had mine on for over 4 months on stock struts and i love them. Nice ride even on my stock struts. I would get them again in a heartbeat.

nice nice....so now let's work on the looks part

my systems gonna weigh a lot. we're look at 1"MDF all around box and for the amp rack, 1" plexiglass. and then amps, cap, and battery. given the added weight, i was thinking that the sprints being 2" all around would make it look like it was sagging in the back. then again, the front is just as heavy having the engine and all, so perhaps that would even it out. so when i was lookin at others, i saw that maxspeeds and progress were around 1.7 front/1.5 rear. i figured that with that setup, even though my rear is not as low as the front, with the sysem, it would drop it more, which would even it out.
what i'm gettin at is how do you think it sits. would having the system make it look funky and therefore you feel getting a less drop in the rear would be better so that when the system is put in, it all evens out....or do you feel the weight up front with the weight in back will even out everything. thanks steve.

The stance with the springs, isnt perfectly even. The front sits higher than the rear and all I have in my trunk is 1 10" sub which weighs probly around 20 pounds. With your stereo it might make it sag a little more, but I wouldnt think much. I'll try and get a side pic of my car on level ground this afternoon so you can see how it sits. Then you can make your decision from there. But like I said, i have no real complaints with the springs at all.

you do realize you're being kind when you say mine might sag a bit more. i was doin some numbers the other nite. each subs weighs about 20 pounds (40 total), the box itself i'm lookin about 40 pounds, the plexiglass sheet at minimum 50-60 pounds, and then the other stuff, let's say 30-40. i'm lookin at around 150-175 pounds alone on the system. so i really need to decide what i want in springs, cause if i get the wrong one, the car's gonna look all f*cked up. i was even considering the least drop in the rear, cause it'll even out. but i guess if someone with a heavy enough system could comment on the drop, this would help also.
i guess i'm pushing more for progress, or perhaps i could mix and match, sprint up front and something else in the rear...who knows...now i'm confused...ah damn it and on a friday too.

Some people have cut their Maxspeeds to get a lower stance. I haven't heard of any problems with this yet.

I guess you can cut the fronts to even the weight in the back?

You could also try some Tein springs. They have like 2.2 drop in front and a 1.7 I think drop in the rear. That might be an ideal set up for someone with that much stereo equipment, like you.

you could pack on a few pounds and sit in the car, it should even out then.

The adverse effect is that your spring rates get all screwed up(stiffens) and the car will handle differently. It may look cool, but it isn't worth it.

Y2KSESteve --

I sent you a PM but I found this thread while I was searching and thought of a new question. Does the rear of your car sag if you have 3 passengers in the back? Or have you not tested this?

Progress hasn't been mentioned. I'm still happy with mine.

Everyone is going to say theirs are the best. Most people in this forum have Eibachs or Maxspeeds. Eibachs are pricey, so Maxspeeds are going to be the most popular in this survey. Personally, I don't think they drop low enough without cutting a coil.
