... or can I get any brand? I have the dreaded grinding-when-cold starter.
Pep Boys has them for $170 if I trade my old one in. They are remanufactured with limited lifetime warranty.
Strangely they want $350 if they install it. ($180 labor)
Nissan dealer wants $340 for starter, $435 installed ($95 labor)
Best would be $265-$275 for Pep Boys starter + dealer install (or just do it myself, but that means doing it outside in PA... brrr)

any help appreciated

you can use any starter you want. nissan's is $$$$ and probly the best. a lot of guys here didn't want to spend the $$$ and got an aftermarket one. the install is easy. you can do it... i had nissan put mine in for around 350 installed or you can do it for under 200.00. its up to you

If possible you might want to see if the starter is able to be rebuilt although I,m not sure why they go bad or why your,s is bad. Also if you can do it (have not done it myself) I understand it is pretty easy to do save yourself some money and use the labor to go see a movie, have dinner and go to a club! If you can get one with a lifetime warranty, thats what I would do. Course I plan on keeping mine till it is AFU, dead and gone!
