tips on adj the timing belt tensioner?

After reading all the threads I could find, I got quite a few tips on the Timing belt install, however, the task of adjusting the tensioner and the total tension on the timing belt seems like a confusing procedure to me. Specifically the use of the feeler gauge and how to determine 22lbs of pressure on the belt and measure the deflection etc. Does anyone have any tips on this aspect of the project or any other tips like getting the cover off easy. I know some said to do the H2o pump pulley last. Trying to save myself some dough, but I dont want to screw up the car if you know what I mean. Any suggestions welcome. How many people have successfully done this?

Thanks
Steve

a FSM has a lot of useful info. might consider purchasing one. it's still a LOT cheaper than paying a shop to do the belt for you.

Thats true. Its time now to change it and I was going to drive back home to TN to do it while on break. I wonder if anyone would be willing to scan the pages that are most helpful in the FSM for me? That would be awesome, but I know its a hassle. Thanks for the advice! Have you done this before yourself, some say its real doable just time consuming.

Thanks

My suggestion was to BUY an FSM, not have someone else do the work for you. sheesh.. people always think everything comes for free.

Now that you guys are on the subject of timing belts, I'm having mine replace by my mechanic. Around how much should I be paying for oem parts: timing belt, water pump, tensioner, thermostat, etc. plus the labor to put all this in??

Thanks

I know you've read through all the FAQ/how-to/maintanence links and searched already but in case you missed it:

check the maintanence links at the top of this forum, there is a link right in there to timing belt replacement for VG30E. It's for a Quest minivan which has a non-interference version on the VG30E, but it's still pretty much the same for the timing belt procedure
there is also a link in one of those "important" posts up top to Chiltons Online which will have some useful info too

I feel stupid, I didnt see that and spent a lot of time searching and reading through the other threads. Could have saved me some time. There is also another link from the quest to another walkthrough with pictures that is helpful for anyone else contimplating this. I amost missed that link.
