Did I mess up my engine?

I was driving to school this morning, and I needed to make a left handed turn at the light(which was green). The road I was on was backed up, so I couldn't even get into the left turn lane. I crossed the double lines and gunned it, the other way was clear, got up to 3.5K and engaged to shift...and my foot slipped off the clutch! (I had taken my foot off the gas to shift also) I still hadn't taken it outta first gear. The car jerked, and I slowly shifted into second gear. Nothing felt wrong, but the jerk was pretty hard. It sometimes jerks when I get off the accelerator in first gear, but I've never done it at 3.5k RPM. Think anything might have happened? I didn't experience wheel hop or nothing, just the jerk. Also, I just realized my shifter kind of moves around in neutral (I have a Short Shifter). It doesn't do a full circle as I've heard some do, but I can move it around a little. Can I fix this? Thx for listenin.

I am new to a manual myself, but was schooled by brother and a few others of much higer skill level.
With that in mind,I was shown to drive the MAX at 1st gear @ under 2k rpm and also for quick shifts (1st gear to 2nd) Rpm rev. to about 4k range! My car is doing fine to this day !My brother drives almost every gear to 5k rpm when driving for max performance. Now you could listen to my BS, or wait for somone to reply with something more inteligent.

Re: Did I mess up my engine?

Absolutely nothing of value happened. Maybe a little clutch wear at worst, but barely that.

I think I'll have the best of both worlds. I'll read your replies to pass the time and I'll wait for someone more knowledgable to answer my question. Hopefully I didn't mess it up, I'm not that worried. Just wanted to know though, and vent. :attention

sounds like your car just revving down after being matted to me...35k isn't really that high of an rpn...thats just a little about everyday shifting level...the worst that happened is a little motor mount abuse (nothing will happen cuz of that) or maybe some clutch wear, so what i want to know was what caused your foot to slip? i have that prob sometimes but thats cuz i have size 15 ft

what the hell were you doing crossing double yellow lines? that is just stupid, not to mention illegal. i hate people that drive like that, they think that they are better than everyone else on the road.

To answer Miasma's question, there is always a problem at that light on my street, it is normal for that to happen. It's not like I was driving through on-coming traffic, it was probably less than 10 yards to get to the (left-turn lane). I don't make it a recurring habbit, except for that one street and one turn. To anwer 97BlackSE's question, (I wear size 12) I think it was probably my feet being a little wet. I had to kind of walk through the snow a little to get to my car, and I'm guessing thats why my foot slipped. It's never happened before, but I can imagine myself doing this agian (not on purpose of course). Makes me wanna get some better pedals, better gripping ones at least...maybe a GD on some

You bum,

I dont even have a stick, but i know enough to call that a Gear Grind, Happens to the best of stick drivers, No damage though, just wears your clutch faster

i'm pretty sure nothing happened to your engine - maybe added to the list of things that you did that will cause your clutch to wear out faster than "normal" but its not much of a problem

In his defense, there are some roads that pose no risk in doing so. I know there is one that can has absolutley 0% of an oncomming traffic accident (unless someone runs the light) (in River Road., Hackensack, NJ). It could be one of those roads.

what you did wasn't too bad
its just improper rev-matching...
don't stress about it
its like shifting into a gear without giving any gas, and releasing the clutch fast.
it just wears the synchros a bit, no harm done.
