brake fluid

take it to the shop. they will need to get all the dirty fluid out, using air pressure. then add fresh fluid and bleed master cylinder and brake lines.

Couldn't he just bleed his brake lines - keep adding fresh fluid to the reservoir till fresh fluid comes out at each wheel?

thats what the shop would probably do and charge $50/hr. you can do it for just the cost of the fluid. do it yourself and save some money.

I was thinking about that but wouldn't i have to bleed each wheel because it looks to me like from the reservoir there are 4 individual lines going to each wheel...

Yes, you will have to bleed each wheel to do this. You should do this anyway though. All that old nasty fluid is in those lines, and the calipers as well, and really should be flushed out too.

at $65.00 per hr., it would probably take at least 1-2 hr., you should use brake fluid that can handle high temp., i use valvoline synthetic brake fluid. dirty brake fluid is a bad sign. i would thoroughly clean(flush out) the entire system. the negative about bleeding yourself is that you might break off a bleeder valve, and then that would delay your process, then you would have to

Get some Speedbleeders and it's very easy.
