Hi fellas, I have run fuel injector cleaner through my car maybe 4 times since I bought my car 2 years ago. My car is 11 years old and I know those injectors can collect a sh*t load of garbage. I had a friend that had his injectors cleaned @ Jiffy Lube for his '97 Civic and you wouldn't believe the crap that came out. I can just imagine the amount of dirt in mine after just recently switching from 87 oct to 93.

What are the drawbacks of cleaning the injectors?? Will it inprove my mpg? Will it smooth out my idle?? Any other comments....

Take care,
ICE

hey

How much does Jiffy Lube charge to clean the injectors?
I just put in some Fuel injector cleaner with hope I'll reduce hesitation and improve my 5.0-like Gas milage..

Before chasing the fuel injectors farther, I'd check some other things first. For instance, did you ever clean the throttle body? It has some small air passages for idling, and if they are dirty, or blocked, the idle will be rough. (I just cleaned it today on my 90 GXE. Very easy to do. Remove the 3 12mm head bolts on the manifold before the throttle body. Spray injector cleaner on the throttle plates and the holes and scrub inside with a soft brush. Note: this is done with the engine off. I used a brush that is like a baby bottle cleaning brush. A lot of junk was flushed out. The idle speed pick up 150-200 rpm, and had to be reset. Idle is also steadier.)
Other tune-up stuff, like plugs, cap, rotor, ignition wires, air filter and gas filter should be done first.

Yo Brubenstein, I understand where your coming from, but I have already cleaned my throttle body 2 twice within the past week. I have also replaced the plugs, wires, timing belt, tensioner, termistat, water pump, all seals, etc.
The only thing I haven't replaced are the distrib cap, rotor, and pcv. I just figured that cleaning the injectors would improve the idle and overall performance.

I hear people with cars that are 7 years newer than mine that have had their injectors cleaned and have sworn that there was a definite imporovement in performance, etc.

I will change the cap + rotor, and pcv soon; but I also was thinking about a full injector flush. I was just wondering about possible consiquenses of having them cleaned on my 11 year old car. I have also heard of people that have had their injectors cleaned and later had them leak, fail, etc.

Any further advice is wanted,
ICE

I used to work at jiffy lube...all they do is feed some stuff into a convinent vaccume line thru an IV into the intake, and pour a bottle of stuff into the gas. If you have a lot of carbon in your intake it may help a little i guess. I did it to my old Firebird and it helped a tad..but it does cost a good bit for no more than they do.
