Help!!!! My car is hesitating and goes off

I am having mad problems with my 92 maxima SE (130K). The car is hesitating, is making accelarations( without me pressing the gas pedal), hesitates and goes off Sometimes while I am driving ( or stop at a light or getting ready to make a turn). If I restart the car it will come up OK but it is really annoying and dangerous because the wheel gets blocked.
I have these problems a little after buying the car. I bought the car at 121k and I did a complete tune up. The mechanic put ordinary plugs and I changed them for NGK platinum plugs when He told me that (I checked in my owner's manual for the correct plugs). Still not doing better.
I went to Nissan and the told me my Coil #3 is the one responsible for the failure and they told me change all of them ($1200.00!!! too expensive for me little student) . Another guy told me it could be the timing that needs to be increased ( when the car is hot it runs around 500-700rpms).
I am not a pro in mechanic and I am learning as much as I can ( I really love this car and plan to do lot of things on it) Can somebody help me and guide me to fix this.
Thanks for your help.

My 94 Se is doing the exact same thing. Do a search and you will find plenty of things to check. Everyone seems to get this problem but there are a number of things that cause this problem and just as many diffrent fixes for it. I was told that it was my knock sensor. I checked the ECU and that's the code it's been giving me too. Good luck, I order a knock sensor yesterday hopefully it will fix my problems.
