I got my knock sensor in the mail today from Courtesy, but after looking at the write up on 4dsc.com I don't know if I can do the work myself. The only mechaninc work that I have actually done to this point is cleaning the throttle body and replacing the fuel filter. Has anyone else completed this task, and recommend a DIY. Or should I take it to a shop, the place that tested the sensor had qouted me at $575 for parts and installation.(that includes the cost of the knock sensor)

 

Believe me... I thought the same thing when I did my injectors. But as long as you've got a semblance of patience, you should have NO problem doing this. From the write-up's I've seen, it's pretty much the same thing as when I replaced my fuel rails/injectors in regards to taking off the intake manifold. But if you've got doubts, take a day or two to do it, keep hitting us up on the .org, and I'm sure we'll get through it.

Of course you have to also consider whether you have alternative transportation, in case it took longer than you expected! (as I'm sure it will! ) Plus you probably gonna have to go to the parts store during the procedure to get something!

 

GET THE SUB-HARNESS CABLE BEFORE YOU START THE JOB.

the info for the cable is in the FAQ at the top of the page I believe. The main problem with the KS is that the terminals corrode due to the dissimilar metals that nissan used between the cable and the KS.

 

I bought the sensor from courtesy and it came with a sub harness. The only thing the offer is the knock sensor kit including sensor and subharness. Looks like I'm going to have to take it to the Mechanic on Monday, I don't have the time or tools to do it myself and I can't aford to be without a car more than a day. I've got a mechanic that will install it for $200.

Ok, got the knock sensor replaced yesterday. Drove awesome last night and all day today. Stronger than ever. But on the way home tonight the car starts acting up again. Stalled on me just driving down the street, then started bucking. I haven't got a chance to reset the ECU since the replacement (With all the snow and lack of garage living in an apartment.) Could it be acting up because of the codes saved up in the ECU? I ran a test an its no longer giving me a knock sensor code, but in the write up on 4dsc.com it says reseting is a must. What's going on? I hate this crap.
