What do ya'll think? The styling is different but I'm sure will grow on me. I'm interested in the fact that its a 4 door, 0-60 6.1-6.4 seconds, full time awd car. It also sports a momo steering wheel. I don't think it gets better than that. In other words, fun enough to powerslide, yet useful enough to carry my kids. All this for under $28k.

Let's see what the 2002 Max can do (0-60 6.0 or less???).

heres a link to some pictures.

Try $24k for the sedan, $23.5k for a wagon.
I'm seriously considering it right now...

what a deal!

im happy with the way the current 2.5 RS is. i can only imagine the new WRX with the ability to go 0-60 in 6.1-6.6 seconds..time to trade in our 2.5 or my gxe! haha of course it's a smaller car. i really want a 2 door, but they only offer a 4 door sedan or 5 door wagon..maybe in the future they may get faster as well..kinda like the M3 euro version? this car is gonna be really tight! now, about those bug eyed headlights...hmm

That article was in the 1st issue of C&D I got in the free 1 year subscription. hehe.

Yeah pretty nice package. I don't like the eyeball headlights though. Nice #'s and we didn't even get the good motor! But as long as we get some kind of turbo WRX, there will be ways of upping the boost. I hope Sub put the same block and heads and just put a smaller turbo on.

Re: what a deal!

At the expense of sounding dumb, is the WRX a Subaru, I thought it was. Doesn't look like one though.

The WRX is a Subaru. It is supposed to be a 276-300 bhp monster, but were getting a 220ish hp version.

In C&D, it states that Subaru is planning on releasing more powerful versions in the future. I'm assuming with more powerful price tags too. The article also mentions that the car is boosting pretty high(16lbs???) I'm not too excited about that but the drivetrain should handle the power.

As far as styling, I dunno. The front end is pretty sweet. The rear is the downfall for me. A set of 18" gold wheels would look purty tucked into the fenders.

Forget the Subaru!

Did you see that new Skyline?!?!?! Same issue, page 28, bottom left corner. May God please bless the US and make Nissan import these! Let's all keep our fingers crossed. 400 hp, turbocharged, 3.0 V-6. I'll take one!

That is a dream car (for me at least). Probably $50k+ easy. It's beautiful even though it is accord coupe-ish.

The Subaru is reasonably priced and aimed at me.

The WRX is already out here in Europe. Let me tell you, that is one fantastic car. My wife has given me the go ahead, so I will be getting one before long myself - probably the wagon (0-60 in 6.1, incredible for a wagon). I've had a chance to sit in both the sedan and wagon; and they both are great cars. Another neat thing with the WRX is that Subaru carries a whole line of performance parts (short shifters, wheels, suspension parts) that we have to look for elsewhere for our Maximas. I am going to try to talk the Dutch Subaru dealer into letting me test drive one. If I can get them to do it, I'll post a report. Subaru has launched a WRX website. You can check it out at http://www.imprezawrx.com

One more thing on the WRX...the pictures of it don't do it any justice. When I saw the pictures of it I wasn't impressed, but when I saw it in person, I was impressed. Go check one out when they get to the states - I think you will be surprised, especially for a Subaru.

Oh yea, does anybody want any of my Maxima mods? I need WRX money!!!

Autobahn Max-

Congrates on possibly buying a WRX. I wish I had the cash right now to buy one, but I think I'll wait a few years and look into getting a used 6 speed Audi All-Road and add a chip

Anyways, if you do happen to pick up a WRX, I'd be interested in the JWT ECU. Will it work on my 5 speed 96 SE? How much do you want for it?

Dave

Autobahn Max: Are you out in Germany? I was out there for 4 years and had the Max there for 2. The car is better suited for the bahn and its well crafted roads. When I was there(98), I had one of the few 4th gens (let alone a modded one).

There is just something about the Subaru brand that appeals to me. Kind of the same way that Nissan does. You don't see these cars everywhere yet they aren't overly priced like bimmers and audis. I dunno, I might simply be strange.

here in AUstralia, i basically grew up admiring the WRX, they released it here like 94 or something.
they are a great car no doubt, however if u are after performance get the older version of the WRX, its faster.
however the new one out corners it. In all honesty i think the new WRX is very ugly, however build quality is right up there.
there is a 97 WRX here on the gold Coast in Australia that has 500hp at all four wheels!!!
I really think you should all keep saving for the R35 skyline

According to scc magazie, the 280hp version (B4 engine) would not pass the new ultra low usa emission requirements. Even the new 220hp version has THREE cats! sheesh that's a litter!

Yeah the options list is pretty sweet... I'd get the 17"x7" BBS style wheels, short-throw shifter, titanium shift ****, and my favorite..a gauge pack that includes a boost gauge (mounted in an excellent position too)

I've been quite taken by the WRX Wagon, in that pretty shade of blue. It only weighs 80lbs more than the sedan, so it'll still haul, and IMO it looks better. It's cheaper too.

Heck I'd order one now and sell my car immediately. But it'll take a few months to save up the extra cash, and by then the car will be at dealers...

i'm sorry.......

I like perf. and all that good stuff but I think this car looks GAY! Seriously.....what do you think of a Neon....B!TCH car...right. This car just looks funny....

Hell...if it does low 6's for mid 20's....the new Z is gonna do under 6 for UNDER 30k....AND....your driving a sports car(not that the wrx won't handle well) but the whoe 2 seater/long hood/bad **** kinda look
