I'm ready to buy myself an intake system and a Cattman Y-Pipe.......only thing is I'm not completely sure which intake I want. I'm leaning towards the place racing intake but I'd like to know what you guys think. I drive a 2001 maxima SE (no mods, yet). Thanks for the help!

Geez... you guys sure are pushing the Search lately .

I guess I should add something to the topic. I have the pop charger. No real perfomance increase noticed other than noise (which is nice). Looks good and performance should match Stillen's with a lower price. I assume if I get a y-pipe it would add better gains.

You have the best one

Ive tested Stilen HyFlow and PR CAI, in my case the stock air box is your best bet and wont cost you a penny. The PR CAI does improve a bit but its just a BIT!,plus a monster sound, so you deside. My best combo is the YPipe with Stock Muffler and Stock air box. Read again with stock muffler.

I have to say, with much honesty, that the CAI works alot better on my car than the underhood style intakes. I converted my car to the underhood style about 2 months ago and Mad Max ran ALOT slower. It lost a ton of low end. I lost about 0.3 seconds and 2 mph in the first 1/8th mile! This was with very similar 60 ft times of about 2.20. The second 1/8th was about the same.

I switched back to the CAI style, and went right back to running consistently lower times with a best as shown below.

Check out my thread...Cattman vs Stillen y-pipes & intakes

I did some research already and found that Place Racing is the more poplular one, its a bit louder and about $40 dollars more than Stillens...but they say it takes in colder air...I have a 2k1 se 5spd w/no performance mods yet either so I've been doing my homework!

i have decided

thanks for all the advice guys. I have finally made a decision. I've decided to stick with the always reliable
Stillen intake, Stillen Y-pipe combo. That in addition to my stillen FSTB and RSB should help my car kick some serious *** on the road. Hope to meet some of you on the road!! Anybody from Shaolin or the metro new york area?

What is this . . . the herd instinct ???

I'm amazed that you guys are overlooking probably the best bang-for-the-buck intake option available for a 5th Gen Max . . . the Air Silencer CAI. If I hadn't already purchased an SI, I most certainly would have tried the Air Silencer CAI with a K&N or Amsoil drop-in filter first. Total cost = ~$50.00.

Check out the Air Silencer CAI link in my sig if you want more info.

How many people have done this?

Results? Any problems?

Thanks.

Where can I get a 4" tube? I tried a few auto parts store and Home Depot. The closest thing I got was those 4" hose for laundry driers.

Only one person has done this so far . . .

and that's 2K2DEMAX. He doesn't have an e-mail address, so I'll send a holler out to him to check out this thread. If we're lucky, maybe he'll respond.
