How do I tell if my car is running rich?
How do I tell if my car is running rich?
I think that my car is running rich...
my symptoms:
my gas mileage is AWFUL...sometimes, I think there's a leak!!!
my exhaust smells a little rich too...
I have experienced no codes. (almost typed coeds! mmm...sexy college co-eds...
)
my plugs are about a year old, and are OEM...
I've got an intake...
it's possible that I have a bad ignition signal wire...
So, how do I check to see if my car is running rich?
If my car is running rich, how do I correct it?
All HELP is GREATLY appeciated!!!
take care all:

start your car and allow it to sit for approx...two mins...
Then suck on the tail pipe, and tell us what it tastes like !
BUMP, so you can get it answered seriously...(just playing up top, there, man)

Looks like you have a bad 02 sensor. But if you have a bad ign wire also, fix that asap to eliminate that possibility.
To REALLY know exactly if/how much richer you are running. Set an appointment at a dyno place that has a wideband 02 sensor option. It will tell you EXACTLY what is going on. Cost? $50-$100
Take the car to a dealer and have them hook up the consult. It should tell you if the 02 is cycling rich/lean enough and should be able to tell the injector pulsewidths(to see if one of the wires to the injectors are faulty or if the injector is bad via ohm readings)
Also they should be able to check the ign ohm readings also. Cost? $75ish for hook up and something extra for the time I think.

If the dealer is simply hooking my car up to an OBD-II?
Or, are they using something Nissan-specific?
In other words, do I have to go to the dealer for this info?
Thanks again,

-- fill up your tank, till you can't fill it no mo...
-- drive
-- when it's time to fill up again (and your tank doesn't need to be empty), note your mileage, and how much gas you needed to fill up again.
-- when you fill up this second time, be sure to fill it till you can't fill it no mo!
This will give you your MILEAGE and your GALLONS.
get a calculator, and enjoy!

BTW -- my last tank got me about 12.5 MPG
