Just bought Max, taking it to dealer for a check. bad idea?

I just bought a 97 SE with 87k miles. The car runs well and has a 30 day lemon-law warranty through the seller. I made an appointment to take it to my local Frost Nissan dealer. On the phone I requested that they check it over as much as possible. He said no problem and that it would be $82.50. Must be a normal thing to do since he knew the price off the top of his head. My plan is then to take any papers he gives me, saying what is wrong (hopefully nothing is), to the shop that sold me the car and have them do the work under the 30 day warranty (it covers everything but the stereo). Does anyone think this is a waste of money? Is there anything I should specifically request the dealer/service center to look at?

Thanks!

probably good idea unless their is a local mechanic who specializes only in japanese cars (there's one by me) that might do a more thorough job. Don't have regular repairs done at the dealer though (in the future). They will lie and try to rip you off every time. Just my experience though.

if the check engine light is off make sure they didnt just reset it otherwise it will just come back on after about two hundred miles. have them check the o2 sensors, egr sensors, also i believe there were a few vin specific recalls with the 97 maybe the ignition coils or the alternater. i cant remember. you dont have to take it to nissan.if i were you i would just take it to somebody i trust. maybe a friend. or you could find someone on here that lives near you and maybe get them to take a look at it.personally 82.50 is ridiculous just take it to a shop when there not busy and ask one of the mechs to help you out slip him a 20 and call it a day.good luck
