Stillen+Frankencar = banging
Stillen+Frankencar = banging
Alright, I'm sure i'm not the only one with this problem.
With the arrangement of the frankentake + stillen filter in my engine bay, I get some bad banging when I shift or when I start the car at low rpms. When I floor it you can hear the damn thing resonating against my fender.
I first tried the bracket that steve sent me (thanks steve) and it broke almost immediately. The bolt is now permanently part of my strut tower. Finding no recourse there, I tried zip ties. Well the engine torquing stretched them out and the problem's back.
Worst of all the edge of the intake is starting to bang into one of my fuel lines and is wearing a nice dent in it. (fuel lines on the 2k2 run near the driver side strut tower.
I need ideas!
I'll try to get pics for you guys.

You had better fix it somehow before it destroys your fuel line. How did the bracket break that easily? Maybe Steve would send you another one, if you ask. Try loosening the hose clamps and shoving the intake as far as possible towards the throttle body.

I tried shoving it further in, but the idler bypass hose piece is too long! I think i'm going to have to take a hacksaw to it.
Hmm well the zip tie is at least keeping it away from the fuel line for now, I think I need to get some rubber foam tape to place around the fender/strut tower area.

Thanks for all the great ideas guys!
I'm going to take it apart and put it back together, and this time i'll be armed with foam rubber tape, a hacksaw and zip ties.
I think the main problem was that the frankencar mid-pipe was never intended to be used with a filter as large as the stillen. I'll keep you posted.
I'm surprised no one else is having this issue.
