When do u feel the power of y-pipe?

Today i finally got a chance to test drive '99 cali spec. 5-speed Maxima and compare it to my '98 5-speed maxima w/y-pipe. cars have the same mileage, but mine is all tuned-up. to tell you the truth the only gear i could feel more power was 2nd (if that). is there something wrong with my car? i know that bad knock sensor will reduce the performence but i don't pull any code from ECU. Maybe i should replace it anyways? What about ignition coils and injectors, the car has 53K miles and is in perfect condition though.

Highway, top of 3rd and 4th. Oh yeah, you'll feel it.

i feel the increase in response after 3krpm as long as it's in the proper gear.

Yeah, but in 1st and 2nd, the car just zings thru those gears b/c of the high ratios, and its harder to tell any changes in the engine. In 3rd and 4th, the VQ is stretching its legs and the change in performance will be much more apparent then.

i didn't really notice the difference...until i lost traction at about 4.5k rpm in second gear
i know i couldn't do that before the ypipe.
but this happens only once in a while...its not consistent.

Yeah, sounds about right... usually after 3k in 2nd or 3rd, I can definitely feel some power...

Not to mention, I can easily spin my tires in 1st

I have a stock max.....when it was in good running order I was able to downshift from 3rd to 2nd at 4.5 - 5k and chirp the tires as the car is still moving....I did it about three times, but i have to get it just right on the shift and let the clutch go at just the right time and give gas at just the right time. Now its leaking some damn oil and my knock sensor gives me 300km to the tank. How much did you pay for the budget y? and is it still on sale?

I raced a friend's 2000 Prelude when I had my maxima returned to stock. We went from 0 to 100mph. He beat me by A LOT. 4th gens have terrible topend and it was apparent that I was not gonna catch him after 80mph.

I raced him again after the PRCAI and Ypipe went in. I beat him by about 4 cars. The ypipe did wonders for the top end power. Not only did it stay with the prelude's VTEC, it beat it. I couldnt believe it.

You better be talking about an auto. I can easily break loose in 2nd with my mom's 96, and it's completely stock. They are good tires too, its not like anything it bad in that area. (maybe you need to learn to drive better ) j/k... hehe

I've done it in my auto too though. It's not like you time anything, you just move the shifter foreward. If it's an auto, its also not a matter of shifting at the right moment, its a matter of whether or not the car decides it wants to give you a fast good shift or not. Hrmm.

OMG, all this time i never figured what the ratio's were all about, you are so right...my first gear doesnt last for **** when i race....is there anyway to change that? oh and yea,

first gear i feel y-pipe around 2.5k
2nd gear 3k
3rd gear 3k
4th gear 3k
5th gear dont really feel it but i would say around 4.5k

i gotta test mine out again but dont let me down shift or WOT in like 4k, my car is all over the place

You'd have to talk to Eric D Wong about changing the ratios in your tranny. I don't think it's ever been done. You just have to feather the throttle in 1st, or its wheelspin city.
