Motivational Engeneering Strut Mounts

I just talked to Mike. He's wheeling to make 5th gen strut mounts if there is enough (10 people at least) interest. Price will be around $125-$150. He also asked me if anyone had a picture of 5th gen strut mount, distance between bolt holes and spring diameter.
Let me know if you are interested.

I'm interested!!!!

Anyone who has lowering springs and runs stock struts, Tokico blues, or KYB GR2/AGX NEED these. Especially, those with TEIN and Sprint size drops.

They will add ~1" of rear suspension travel to help reduce bottoming out the rear PLUS they place the piston in a more centered(read optimal) position, which will increase the life of your struts.

Ride comfort will also improve.

Here is a thread explaining more about these by Dave B:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ational+mounts

Here is their website:

Wouldn't the 4th gen ME strut mounts fit a 5th gen?

The struts are the same, but the springs might make a difference.

I think the rears are the same. It's just the front that are different.. But never the less, I would be down for a set

If that's true, we just need to get Cattman to make us some OVERtower mounts for the fronts and we are in business.

Hopefully, he comes back in May(if ever!) and I can talk with him about it.

I have 5TH Gen Cattman modified KYB AGX's struts with PROGRESS sport springs. *not installed yet* I just wanted to know if these upper strut mounts and/or rear upper strut mounts will be able to fit my suspension set-up???

Well we have 8 in this thread that are interested. If we can get 2 more, we are in business. What about the fronts, are they an area that could also benefit from having a more efficient mount design? If yes, I would be in for them as well, what about everyone else?

Anyone I may be interested if these mounts will fit my suspension set-up with no problem.

From a thread in the general forum now, it appears that the consensus is that the upper mounts are different in terms of spacing for the bolts that will prevent mounting to a 5th gen. If we can get these made for us though, then that would help you. Are you in?

Is this interest for 5TH Gen front upper strut mounts or rear upper strut mounts or both??? I just went to the website and they only offer rear upper strut mounts for 95-99 maximas???

I'll be interested if motivational engineering is willing to fabricate 5TH Gen (2000-2003) front and rear upper strut mounts for my 5TH Gen Cattman modified KYB AGX's struts with PROGRESS sport springs suspension set-up.

We were trying to figure out whether the 4th gen rear mounts would work on a 5th gen and it appears that they do not. I don't believe there is anything for the front mounts as of yet, but I suppose we could get them to manufacture them. In your case, the rear mounts, if made, will work, but I don't believe the fronts will as you are really using 4th gen springs and the corresponding mounts in the front.

My springs aren't 4TH Gens. The PROGRESS sport springs are made to fit 95-2003. I even checked the part number on their website. Hopefully they will make front/rear upper mounts for 5TH Gen owners.

Okay, but Cattman says that 4th gen mounts are needed up front, so I don't think a strut mount designed for 5th gens would work for you.

Well Cattman says you can utilize either the 4TH Gen front upper strut mount or use you OEM stock ones and have them shave 1cm off*I don't know where though* to allow them to fit.

Update from ME

I sent Mike at ME digrams for 4th and 5th gen strut mounts. Read his reply below:

The mounts look like they will work on the 5th gen if you buy the 4th gen buffer part #55034. I was able to determine this by the gasket part # that goes above both generations mounts. Notice the gasket is the same part number??? This means the bolt pattern should be the same. They may also require extra urethane bushings that I would provide. I usually provide 2 per kit, but may need to provide 6 with the gen 5 kits.

Hey guys, I am about to buy a set of 4 KYB AGX for my 2k1 lowered maxima ( Maxspeed ), I believe the KYB AGX have to be modified to be installed on a 5th gen, plus I think they require the 4th gen mounting plate . if I'm not mistaken these custom mounting plate proposed here would replace the 4th gen mounting plate right ??? But with those custom mounting plate ( or whatever there call ) will I need to buy the modified KYB AGX like the one sold by Cattman or will I need to buy unmodified 4th gen KYB AGX, because I'm about to order the KYB AGX I want to be shure I got everything right the first time. If those would replace the 4th gen then I would be interested in buying the custom mounting plate offered here. Let me know if an upfront payment would be required, since I want to do the jobs asap.

Thanks for any explanations.

Cheers

NikaL-
I got a 5th gen rear strut mount in- It appears to have the 55034, 55322, and 56218 all made into one piece. It seems to me that if the diameter of the strut rod is the same, you wouldn't need to modify the stock 5th gen mount at all. Am I missing something? Anyway, if you want measurements or anything, just let me know.

So are you saying that we can use the 4th gen mount from ME and then add 4th gen parts that you say were incorporated into the 5th gen mount? What are these extra parts exactly and how much do they run? Thanks Dave, good to see everything worked out for you on the job front.

I thought that the original idea was to use 4th-gen style rear struts on a 5th. If you use aftermarket 4th gen mounts, you would probably need to use all the 4th gen associated hardware. I was just passing along the info that those 3 parts are combined into one on a stock 5th gen.

The original idea was to have new ones made and the second idea then became to see whether the 4th gen mounts could be used since someone thought they were the same. You are saying they are not, but in such a way that they can still be used if we add 4th gen parts to them. Of the parts you mentioned, which ones would have to be added to the 4th gen mounts for an equivalent 5th gen mount, ie part number and description? What about the front mounts, how different are they between the 4th and 5th gens? Thanks for the info.

I must admit I'm in a little bit over my head here- I really don't know if the ME strut mounts are specifically 4th or 5th gen, I was just trying to provide info by comparing the stock setups. Perhaps I could provide you with both 4th & 5th gen illustrations?

Are people still interested in these? I want to lower my car in about a month's time and would like to have these by then given all of the details can be worked out. Has it been confirmed that the 4th gen mount can be used or no?

Hey guys, I'm interested in that GD, I will be buying KYB AGX soon, probably from Cattman so I just want to be shure everything is going to fit.

Let me know when you need the money.
