A worn clutch will slip under hard acceleration, or maybe even normal acceleration. It has the feeling of you pressing on the gas, the RPMs go up, but it doesn't feel like the RPMs of the engine quite match up with the speed of the car. If you have a 2000, I don't think you could have worn it out that quickly.
And about the shifter feeling funny... I know sometimes when the car is cold, it makes the shifter really hard to shift. Might be that. Let it warm up, and see if it goes away.

That's one true thing, drewm. The tranny definitely takes longer than the engine to warm up. I notice it when it's cold and I live in Los Angeles! So if you're in a really cold clime, ohboiya, I'd say it's probably normal.
