Unknown ticking and pwr steering issues
Unknown ticking and pwr steering issues
Hey guys. While I was cleaning my throttle body today, I noticed a lot of ticking in the engine bay. It's stemming from right behind the front coil packs and it seems like there is a sensor or something plugged in near the area. Any guess as to what it may be?
Also, when I rotated my steering wheel, I can hear the pump (I can only assume) make a jolting type noise. Seems like everytime the wheels need to turn, it jolts when the are moving, then jolts again when they stop. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance. I appreciate it.

From what I have heard that ticking sound is normal. It's part of the design with the coil packs and something to do with the engine.
For the steering you may want to try and flush the system first. It's easiest to just disconnect the pump return hose and flush it out that way while using the system. Just make sure you get all the air out, to do that you have to have the car running and turn the wheels from left to right at the stops a few times and fill as needed. It uses ATF fluid or power steering fluid.
Good luck.

Running?
-injectors. It's fine.
Off?
-that's the block cooling down. It's fine.
As for the steering, is the car on or off? If the car is on and you're turning the wheels while the car is stationary, you're putting a lot of stress on the steering and pump. What you are hearing is the pump working hard and probably some of the suspension components moving around a bit since everything has loosened up over years of use. I wouldn't worry about it.
