Can I paint orange taillights clear?

I have a '96 Maxima SE with the ugly stock red/orange corner taillights and I was just wondering if there was any way I could paint over the orange and make it clear and still have the lights work. Or do you know of any places/sites that would have clear/clears for a '96 where I can paint one part red?

Paint them clear...now thats a new one. Ummm, no you can't paint something thats already painted clear. If you had a 97+ you would have a much easier time getting red/clears but unfortunately 95/96's are plauged by this dillema. Best bet is to keep your eyes open for "David L Red/Clears" in the for sale section. David L was/is a member and made a very good, clean product (95/96 Red/Clears). Another thing to keep an eye out for (and this is a longshot) is that CustomMaxima states that they are going to be producing 95/96 red/clears...so keep an eye on their webpage.

When and how did you hear this about custommaxima.com, and do you have any idea when they'll become available? Please excuse me, I'm very desperate.

They posted it on their website last December. Since then they have changed their website format, and don't have a product list update section.

Clear colored paint, yea try putting that clear color polyurathene paint over your orange lenses. You might need two or three coats to make them really really clear.

Posts like this just make my day all that much better.

Are you really serious? Would polyurethane clear paint really work? Have you done it?

I've got some clear paint I could let go for pretty cheap. You gotta be careful, though, too much and you won't be able to see the taillights at all. You'll see right through them into the trunk. And be sure not to get any on you!!!

And don't use any on yourself. We've all seen the movie "The Invisible Man", or at least heard about it (either the Kevin Bacon one or the Chevy Chase one).

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be mean but this is the stupidest question I have ever heard in my life!!! I am LMAO!!!
Tell me how you would paint anything clear? It's a good thing you can't paint colors clear because if you could many people would have clear cars with all the clear coat on there.

You think if I got enough of this stuff I could paint myself a really big sunroof? Maybe I'll even get some for my hood for when I go to car shows.. </sarcasm>

how sweet would it be if you could become invisible??? you could put the paint on..... and go wherever you want without anyone seeing you... then you would get your paint thinner out and take the paint off of yourself

Yo everboby thanks for your sarcastic replies! When I posted this question I thought it was just as bogus as you thought. But this guy emailed me who seemed really serious about being able to clear out your tails by yourself. I posted this question to make sure that it wasn't possible! Hell, when I look back at it, what a stupid f*cking question!!!!!

It's possible to clear it yourself, just not on a 95/96 or with clear paint.

I was being chased by the Police, i remembered i had a few cans of krylon clear in my back seat i quickly sprayed like a mad man and it worked, the cop drove right by me! as for the tail lights, i found that if you sand them down first the clear sticks much better.
