Do 5-Speed non LSD & 5-speed LSD share case???

I've been looking for 5-Speed transmissions with VLSD, and as many of you know, they are scarse and expensive. I've found engines for as cheap as $280, but no used VLSD trannys for less than $1200.

Does anyone know if you can just transplant the differential from the VLSD equipt tranny into one that didn't originally have the VLSD dif.?? It would make transmission replacement much cheaper...

I wouldn't worry so much about killing my high milage tranny (143k) with too much boost.

You can transplant the differentials, but good luck finding one. I've been lookin forever now and can't even find a full tranny. As for the trannies, all the internal parts (i.e. bearings and syncros) are the same, even the diff bearings (found out from working at a Nissan dealer). Hope you have better luck then me finding one though and hope this info helps.

Search on www.car-part.com, there should be about 6 with VSLD, and about 30 with non-VLSD. It's also interesting to search for engines; there is one with only 28k for $440.
