Is there an easy (free) way to find out what tint my windows are? i bought the car used and the previous owner didn't know either. they look pretty dark but i have no idea.

maybe a website that shows what each % of tint looks like so i can compare? thanks

 

take it to a tint shop and ask....they could probably tell

 

Go to your local police station and tell them that you think your tint is illegal and you want to volutarilly have it tested. I'm sure they would test it without giving you a ticket(that's after stating that you will remove if it is illegal). Of course you're at no obligation to remove it after being tested

 

hahahahah genius... i just might do that if there's not a way to do it myself.

Or, just find a cop sitting in a parking lot and ask him (politely of course). Most cops wouldn't mind at all because it shows you are trying to be a responsible person and obey the law. Keep in mind that depending on your jurisdiction, and the money they pour into their police dept, not all cops may carry a tint-meter. You could also check a place that does motor vehicle inspections. A lot of states require tint testing for an inspection sticker, and some shops may just test it for free (it only takes a few seconds). I found out my rear is illegal (by a whopping 3%) last time I got my inspection sticker.
