1/4 mile times 300zx ----- Max97SE

Hey,

I have a few questions. I was looking around on the web this morning and came across a guys site sporting his 300zx. This car is a twin turbo, and had some other mods. He estimated the car had around 305 HP. dang, lost the page, anyways he was putting up times of mid 14's and i believe the site said 97mph and maybe some 98's in the quarter. What i did not understand is how can a car with more HP than mine and twin turbo seem to be a bit slower than mine. Maybe its just because i have not accurately measured the speed of my car. i went out today and watched the car up to 2.5 tenths of a mile and was in the 98, 99 mph range, i know hardly accurate..but again i would hate to go out and buy a twin turbo and do some mods and still be in the same class as the max i have now...this cannot be ... would love some feedback from experienced drivers , etc...

just to let you know, you will not trap out at those speeds you are claiming. you will be lucky to get 92-93mph with a stock 5spd. and that should equate to about 15.1 or 15.2. head to the track and see what you will run, but i promise it won't be as fast as you are claiming. oh, Z's are not that fast.. TT or NA. i don't know why a car with 300hp is so slow, but it is still faster than a stock maxima.

The fastest NA 300zx's w/o nitrous, but modded, will trap ~95.
The TT 300zx stock can trap anywhere from ~98-102, but with a few mods, $1000-$1500 dollars will get you traps from ~108-112, pretty fast. BTW, TT 300zx weighs in around ~3,500 pounds, how much for the Maxima?

ding ding we have a winner!

A 4th Gen Maxima 5spd only weighs around 3000lb, and therefore requires much less power to accelerate itself at the same rate as a 3500lb Z32.

Very true, from a standing or low speed start weight is very important. However, the weight becomes much less of a factor at higher speed in terms of acceleration. At higher speeds, the horsepower put to the ground matters more as does coefficient of drag. Do you agree?

Don't make the mistake of assuming just because one ******* can't drive his car worth crap, the rest of the world can't either.

BTW you won't trap 97-98 mph with your mods. You MIGHT and I say that in capital letters for a reason, see 96mph traps. Typically with your mods you will see 94.5-95.5mph through the traps. Only the fastest n/a maximas trap in the 98-99mph range. But like you said, your measurement method isn't close to accurate, not to mention in the 1/4 mile your trap speed is averaged over the last 60', rather than an instantaneous reading at the end of the 1/4 mile, further skewing your trap speed to the slower side.

With just an intake and y-pipe I trapped my highest mph of 97. Most were 96 plus, but I didn't have a cat-back then like he does. So why would 97-98 not be possible with his mods??

You are one in about 30,000 people on this website. Obviously its possible since you did it, but it's not likely, it's not even remotely likely. Maybe he will be the 2nd out of 30000 people to have a freak trap speed?

97.15 is unfortunately a far cry from 98 and 99mph... like I said, the fastest N/A 4th gens trap 98 and 99mph, ones with I,Y,E do not.

i just don't see how you are running those speeds. even if you are a great driver it is hard to imagine you getting those trap speeds. i'm curious, have you been to more than that track you got your best times at? maybe it has something to do with that particular track? i'm puzzled... but congrats anyway.

Yep, I have been to more than one track. I ran very close to the same times when stock at two different tracks.

Luckee2behere has also run at this track as well.

you have to admit it is a sweet track. i wouldnt say its anything special its just not sh!tty like so many of the tracks are that ive been to. i havent been to STEELE since i have modded my car. I ran 15.081 there stock. My best ET to date is 14.63 as seen in my sig. I did that at Atco, NJ with intake and y pipe.

i say victim64 is definitely a good driver and it is a good track.
