Mesh filter removal?

Is it safe if i remove this mesh stuff around the MAS sensor. I about to clean my trotle body , i noticed people do this and does it free up any air? , did any of you guys do this?

I've done it. It certainly doesn't harm anything, but I doubt you will see any improvements from it. My MAF gets no dirtier than usual.
