Low Speed Misfire? 94 GXE SOHC, AUTO
Hi Guys,
I have been teaching my 16-year-old daughter how to drive with the "family car" last few weeks. Lots of SLOW & parking, boy does she like to hold that wheel tight against the stop. Changed the burnt power steering fluid twice now!!
Seem to have detected an odd symptom. After the car is fully warmed up, it gives an occasional BUMP (misfire} from the engine. It will do this once, and then a 20 sec or a min later does it again. Seems to run fine otherwise.
I am thinking ignition,.... cap, rotor, wires, plugs......
Sure hope it's not early fuel injector problems.
Probably just needs a good 90 MPH run down the highway......
Any one seen this type of symptom?
Any thoughts what direction to go?
Thanks, Jim

Yikes...
Thanks for scaring the crap outta me.
My daughter is gonna be driving in less than 2 years and I'm planning on giving her my '89 Maxima when she's ready (it's beyond flawless up to this point).
THEN... my son will be driving 2 years after that! God help me. I'm too young to be going through this! My wife thinks it will be terrific fun... but we'll see about that when my daughter asks to use her Pathy.
As far as the misfire... plug wires and maybe a carboned-up throttle plate is the cause
Anyways... good luck with the lessons and wait 'til the insurance bill arrives
Ahhhhh, kids!

Re: Yikes...
Thanks for the reply sammax.
My daughter passed her driving test today........OK by me.
She will get he licence in about a week and a half..
As far as the car goes, I was not going to mess with it till after the road test.
Today I got a good look at the rotor / cap / wires.
What a mess! Can't beleave it was only missing once in a while. The rotor and cap are shot, wires fair. Two of the six cap posts have big cracks around them inside. The rotor is rusted and well burnt. Cleaned everything up and it runs fine. Ordered all new form Courtesy Nissan down Texas today. Checked prices at local dealer and they wanted as much for the wires as Courtsey got for rotor/cap/wires & plugs!!
I'll get them put in next week sometime.
I have only had this car 1500 miles, still working the bugs out of it.
Take care....
