I was driving to school today and got stuck behind some early 90's p.o.s corolla. Anyways, the corolla started smoking bad. It wasn't coming from the engine bay, but coming out of the tailpipe, btw it was white smoke. I've never seen a car smoke this bad before. I couldn't see 10 feet in front of me, it was like driving in fog. But anyways after the corolla started driving for a while the smoke started clearing up. About 5 minutes later my check engine light came on. WTF!? I though it might of been my engine temp sensor (i have a 96) due to my intake, but it was normal and i couldn't tell that there was anything wrong with it. Does anyone know why my cel came on? when I get home I'm going to run the codes and see what shows up.

 

Sounds like the smoke may have freaked your MAF sensor out or something...I dunno.

I just ran the codes and got a 7 long and 5short = EVAP control system
I also got 9 long and 3short = EVAP canister vent control valve,
I don't know what they mean, does anyone know what they mean?
