Mine has been coming apart for about 8 months now, but still no hole. I know I'm not the only one, today I saw 2 I30's with the same condition. Ugh, the factory muffler lists for 250 probably sell for just under 2 bills. Then again, the original has been on my car for 62 months which isn't bad. Would go aftermarket but don't want the noise.....

 

Well for reference my 95 max's muffler just got a hole in it at 120,000 miles and 8 years of age driving in salty road Iowa. My muffler seemed to peel through two layers of aluminum skin before developing a hole. The skin peeling took abotu 3-4 years so you may have years left with it. Go to Midas for a Muffler- $99 and lifetime warranty.

 

Yeah.. definatly don't go OEM, its a waste of money. Aftermarket doesn't necessicarily mean 5" tip'd straight through design. Like Kratz said, just go to any muffler shop and they can hook you up with something cheap that won't increase noise levels.

 

before i had mine replaced, my stock muffler was peeling everywhere, but no holes. As far as i know, that was the original muffler, and my max is a 89 with 149K miles. I now have a Magnaflow muffler. It drones a bit, but i personally like the sound. If i don't feel like being loud for the day i just stick the silencer in there.
