300zx or maxima

I will be buying a nissan this summer and have been debating over these two for a while. Either way, I will be happy but I don't know which to choose. A few questions... How much more expensixe is the 300zx on insurance? WHich car performs better? And which would you choose and why? oh and does anyone knoe if there are any forums like this one except for 300zx?

max is faster than the NA 300ZX, and the TT 300ZX stock is barely faster than a max

BULLSH!T! Maxima's are faster than NA 300zx but not in my wildest dreams would i think a TT would BARELY beat a stock maxima...we're talking RWD, 300 hp, vs FWD 190 hp....

if its a TT i would definitely get a 300z unless you 6'3" and 315 pounds lol. Advantage with maxima is that its classier, more luxurious u know? 300z is all sports, looks a lot better IMO. I think it outperforms maxima in every category.

um, I don't think a full one second(on average) advantage in the 1/4th is even REMOTELY close to being "barely".....

if the 300zx is N/A go for a 5speed max, its quicker and roomier, but wont handle as well, but the max would be a better choice

if the 300zx is turbo, get it, unless u have a family. its much faster, rearwheel drive, handles better, loooks better, amazing aftermarket support, and respect.

and who said the max is barely faster, my friend ran a 13.8 in a 300zx TT(5speed) with just greddy exhaust and intake.

NA to TT

NA can be swapped with TT engines

NA can also be supercharged
NA can also be custom turbocharged, altho it reaches its limits around 350-400HP due to internals.

TT engines are about 1700-3000 depending on year/mileage

TT Zs can be made into 600-800HP cars w/ lots of $

And even the simplest DIY on the Z is requires ASE certification.

Lastly, stock TT Zs are slightly faster than a stock civic.

You sure??

Last I checked, a TT 300zx was high 13s stock, and a Civic SI 5 speed (1999) was high 15s stock. How is that slightly faster?

Unless it's a 300zx TT i wouldn't touch the na one if i had to. They are typicallly more problem prone, insurance is a *****, prices are way to high,to get a decent one would be for 10k,and lastly it's slow!

The TT i don't know if u wanna spend that much it would be 15k+ for a nice one. And couldn't u just get a 02+ and supercharge it and wouldn't that be faster than a TT.

I would go for the max it's a lot more functional and a better overall bet. Plus you can find modded maxs that kill TTs!

Every month or so I really want a 300zx. If it is your daily driver, however, it just isnt a good idea. It will break down and it will cost more to fix it than a max. They are strong and reliable but they are sports cars . The TT does not come in a 2+2 in the US so that means its a true 2 seater. You can maybe fit someone in the trunk for a few minutes if you had to, but thats it.
The pros of course are they are fast as hell stock and can be made faster for not much money. And they look damn cool, and they are pretty rare. Check out www.300zxclub.com

I own both - '97 5 speed Maxima and stock '91 300zxTT.
The 300zx is so much faster it's not even funny. The Maxima feels like a big slow boat now. I only drive the Maxima in rain or snow now that I have the Z.

Probably, but the fun of the Z is only 50% acceleration. If I just wanted speed, I'd by a $6,000 11 sec. mustang. The Z has awesome handling, way more comfortable seats than my Max, T-tops, great styling, and attracts attention everywhere - yesterday I had 2 guys walk up in a parking lot and start saying how awesome my Z was and how they both wanted one. I still love my Maxima, but no matter how fast it can be, it still won't be a sports car. I will probably keep it for another 100,000 miles (it's got 115k). If I didn't get the Z I probably would turbo the Max though.

Sorry I sound like I'm dissing the maxima but I don't mean it (I'm a little more bias right now because I just got the Z). Just given the choice between the 2 cars, I'd take the Z (unless you have a lot of bad weather or need a backseat). Unless it's a NA Z, then I'd take the Maxima of course.

I hear ya man. TT Z's are sweet. I have two or three in my neighborhood, all modded. Sweet rides for sure.

The NA z is not worth the money. Its slow as a bithct. The turbo is toooooooo expansive and u will spend a lot of money restoring it.

Let me tell you this. I had a 300zx and i sold it for the same money i got a 2K maxima 5spd. So you be the judge. What would u rather drive a almost new maxima with NEW technology or a 93 300zx thats a peace of sh*t cause its older then ur grandma.

Good luck.

I need for that b1tch Ash to finish his Zemulator, then I can tune the car and install the Nismo 555 injectors.

Probably going to push around 18PSi thereafter, the new RPS clutch is holding up well.

I'm going to turbo my beater next...that should be very interesting to see

im not flamming, but i will never realize why people come to a maxima forum and ask what to buy a max or something else.....either way, i think we will always be alittle bias, either way best of luck to ya

I've had my Z for about 2yrs now..

Yes I do have money in it restoring it and that sort of thing but that's MY choice. The Z will always be there and is timeless. I have intake, exhaust, UDP, Ashspec ECU and boosting strong 15 psi probably putting down close to 360 rwhp. my clutch and flywheel are waiting to be installed.. You do the math.
I had a 96 max and once I got the Z, it was a whole different car world. I no longer felt that putting a mod on would be a waste of money. Having the t-tops off in the summertime is a wonderful feeling and I wouldn't give up my car for anything.. (maybe a skyline)
For those of you that say there is a lot of maintanance your sources need to get their facts straight. Yes, stuff is pretty expensive but the Z is VERY reliable. If you don't maintain it, yes, it'll turn to junk real quick.
Good luck in your decision>
(oh, if it's an NA.. choose the max)

Z32 N/A < A32

A32 < Z32 TT

Hence:
Z32 N/A < A32 < Z32 TT

Didn't you guys ever take algebra?
