Need help...antenna won't go down....

Hello guys,

I was driving home late Friday night and I turned my bose radio off(1999 Nissan Maxima SE), when I heard this clicking sound. Since it was late at night, I didn't think of anything till I pulled in the garage and when I got out the car, I noticed the antenna was still up. When I turn the radio on, the antenna is making noise as if it were down and trying to come up, but the antenna is already up. When I turn the radio off, the antenna tries to go down, but does not. Any suggestions on what this may be? Also, is this covered on an extended warranty as I have heard these types of fixes are expensive?

Thanks,

Matt

Could be that the antenna is stuck. Try to re-grease it and see if it works then.

Tried it

I tried that and it wouldn't budge, but thanks for replying anyway.

It might be a little bit bent, not a big deal. Go to a nissan dealership parts department and buy a new one, or check ebay maybe. I got a new one from the dealership for about 60$.

I got one overnight from Courtesy for about 55 dollars. Cause I needed it in a hurry. That is just the Mast obviously.

If the plastic "gear" that makes it go up and down is broken, then you might have to R&R the motor, which would be a PITA.

Mast itself is easy though... patience with a pair of needle nose will have the new one in, in about five minutes. (Course, I didn't need an extra person... now I know what the remote for my Alpine is for )

Turns out the mast was broken, not bent

The mast was broken which sucks, but it is covered on the warranty, so I will just bring it in on Saturday at the dealership I bought it from to avoid the $100 deductible.

Thanks

i purchased a mast from the dealer for 40 dollars, but your better off getting them on ebay for like 20. i think a piece of the rope on the antena got stuck in your motor, you might need to buy a new assembly if it turns out that the antenna isnt bent
