Are most running a turbo kit, or custom setups?
I'm beginning to explore the turbo conversion, but havn't found a few bits of information.
First of all (and possibly most important), are you guys running a turbo exhaust manifold set from somewhere or are you having them fabricated? I've done searches on the web and havn't come across anything. It appears that everybody is running a single turbo fed from both the front and rear cylinder banks. Is this correct? I'm also assuming that there is justa single 3" exhaust system that protrudes from the turbine end of the turbo?
Second: What are you guys using for an FMC? Is the stock computer bypassed, or is the secret to send the ECU to JWT and have them do their tweakage? I've read that the stock injectors can handle 8psi of boost, but what alternatives do you have as far as injector sources when you want to run more?
What are the common intercoolers being used for these setups?
Sorry for the questions, but apparently I have missed the location where all of this stuff is already covered. A FAQ for boosted apps would be a nice addition to this part of maxima.com

Mine will be a custom setup. I thought about going with a kit, but since I'm always short on funds, I'm going to space out the fabrication myself over the summer. Still havent desided on which turbo to get, but i have a friend with a performance shop getting ready to upgrade his 300zx turbos with larger ones, and will give me a good hookup on them. I'll probably end up using one of them, rebuilding the other one, and either keep it as a spare, or sell it for much needed $$$.....
Im going custom... Like Whitemax this gives me the chance to space out money as i slowly buy the parts...and since i have some hook ups with parts, and all the piping in the long run i should save money ....so yeah all the piping im going to be making.. I dont think any of the people with kids will sell the manifold alone.
What do you mean by FMC

Yeah thats what i thought he was talking about...Im gong to get one from here

I was going to go with 8:1 but im going with 10:1 so i can mess around more on the dyno, and im going to buy somthing where i can tune it down or up depending on if im running rich or not

unless you want to run a 2.62 pulley.
btw, you have S-AFC?

2.62 = 15psi
how are you going to tune the A/F with a fixed FMU and no S-AFC? increase amount of boost?

forget about 10:1 or 8:1....get a cartech adjustable FMU and an S-AFC.

" no that would not change his a/f considering the vortech fmu is a boost dependant rising rate fmu.. so as you up the boost the fuel pres gets upped too.

um first of all you cant compare superc psi to turbo psi. just as you cant compare a t25 psi to a t60 psi. the vortech is adjustable, why do they sell discs? and also, when you say "how are you going to tune the A/F with a fixed FMU and no S-AFC? increase amount of boost?

will it be better in the future to have one adjustable FMU like the cartech or having a vortech with several discs?
and I didnt think about changing amount of boost will affect the fuel pressure as well....my bad.
thx for the tips.

Now...as far as ease of maintainence and installability, its probably easier to go with a supercharger right? I know the comparison in power between superchargers and turbos are worlds apart (exponential even...haha...I'm a dork), but I'm looking for drivability above all else. This vehicle is currently my daily driver, and I intend on it being so at least until I pay it off. It is my understanding that turbos can be more finiky than superchargers...but maybe that isn't the case. Thoughts?

P.S. I'm looking for around 325-350 FWHP by the end of this...

If you're looking for those #'s at the wheels, go turbo. From looking at posts in the past , I would *asume* that installing a turbo would actually be easier. Only thing going for the SC is they've been out for quite some time....

I was able to tune the A/F as soon as I had the SC in and it on a Dyno...gained 35hp and 25tq just by tuning.
But the Cartech only opens up and tunes at a certain boost range....so I got the AFC to help in the low-end...haven't Dynoed and tuned it yet tho.
