Tranny Broke PLEASE HELP
Tranny Broke PLEASE HELP
Hi: I own a 1997 maxima and as i was driving down my street i had the rpms a little to low to accelerate in 4rth so i went into 3rd and just i felt and heared a wrong noise and stopped. Now even in neutral when the car rolls that banging and noise is still there. The noise sounds like somthing broke on one side and is spinning and hitting somthing else
What could this be. PLEASE HELP this is my only car and i need it to get everwere.
THANKS:GREG

Man you've lost some teeth. You'll need a rebuild, when I blew mine it didn't matter which gear or neutral I was in if the car was rolling there was massive can of coins like sounds happening. Is it hard for you to put the shifter into gears?
Na I can shift and drive it in first like mad slow 3 or less mph but it does sound like gears hitting/Coins. I almost got the thing out today and someone i know said it might be an axle spindle whatever that is. Is this possible to fix yourself if you have the tranny out?? Cuz right now im outta doe and have to pay my insurance, Those F***** rapists!
If you have more info please share. Thanks, I'll keep you updated

You can a used junk yard one for 400-800 if you shop around, a rebuild will cost you around 1000-1200 with labor included if you shop around.
Both have their pluses and minuses.
+ for rebuild:
-You don't have to worry about buying a tranny or searching for one.
-You don't have to worry about buying a tranny that is jacked up.
-You can probably get some sort of warranty on the rebuild.
+ for junkyard:
-If done right it could be cheaper
-If your a DIY mechanic who can drop and install a tranny it'll definitely be cheaper
-You still can't be the consistency of factory Nissan parts in a Nissan installed assembly (in other words, after I got my rebuild the tranny just didn't feel as good)
-A lot of users who have had their trannies rebuilt have seen far less life out of them (one person had his rebuild go out after just 10K {this on an SC'd application})
Hope this all helps.
www.copartfinder.com is a decent place to start looking for a tranny.

I think you my friend have the same problem I have...fortunately mine is back at the dealership for them to fix it under warranty, but mine is or was a little ticking that increased with the speed, but shifted fine...we'll see what they say today...i'm supposed to hear back...I'll let you know.
