I'm new here too and just bought a blue '02 SE this past weekend, but now I'm driving a lancer rental around while it get's detailed

it's an auto (LA traffic) w/ 15k miles and I got it for 17.5k plus tax, title, blahblah

probably gonna get a sunroof installed, and will work on the stereo myself (not Bose)

I've been poking around, but a few general questions as I want this car to last a long time, I plan on taking good care of it.

91 octane is recommended?...if not 91 is 89 better than 87 in a pinch?

do most of you use synthetic oil and how often do you change it?

anti-theft measures for the headlights?

any way to disable the honk when I lock the doors w/ the remote?

otherwise I love this ride, I had an '89 max for 200k miles back in the day

Congrats on the purchase... the following is MHO:

NEVER use 87 octane. If you are in a pinch you can use 89, but try to maintain at least 91+

If you use regular oil, do the changes every 3500 miles... synthetic oil you can go up to 5k or 6k without an oil change... up to you.

DEFINITELY get the HID anti-theft kit from [http://www.courtesy-nissan.com]. It will be the best investment you make towards deterring any theft (it can still happen, but they'll have to mangle the housings!).

Read your owner's manual and it will tell you how to change the alarm lock to the 'silent' setting.
