Nissan pulley parts question

Does anybody know for sure if the 02-03 alternator and water pump pulleys are the same as the 350Z's?

I'm asking because Unorthodox has a full pulley set out for the 350Z.

Thanks

Give DaveB a call. He can look it up. As for the pulleys, I can look at mine, but that isn't gonna really help much. If DaveB isn't available, check your local Nissan parts dealer. They have the part numbers for all the pulleys. If they match, then you're golden. If not, it was worth a try anyway.

I guess that's what I'll do. I was just hoping that someone had the info or checked into it already. I was also concerned because I thought I remember reading that the power steering pulley is extremely hard to remove. Anybody know if that's correct.

remember....

jus' remember though, that most (over 80%) of the power from pulleys come from the weight reduction, not by the amt. of underdriving them. it's still a good idea though saying that underdriving relieves so much stress from the accessory. but underdriving the alternator pulley might not be the best idea if you're running a sound system. i'm currently looking around to see if anybody will be able to make a stock diameter crank pulley with a few pounds knocked out of it. that'll keep the stereo system enthusiasts happy!

The Unorthodox Racing alternator and power steering pulleys are not underdriven, only lightened.

wow, i didn't know that....you have the definitive motorsports udp, right? can i ask why you chose that one instead of unorthodox. i'm not certain what the major differences are, except that the definitive one is a little lighter, and a lot less expensive! have you had any problems with it? i'm contemplating an udp install, but like i said, i need one with stock diameter. if the other accessory pulleys are stock diameter, just lighter, i would be interested in those as well. i guess we got some research to do!

I went with the Definitive UDP because I was convinced that the quality as at least equal to the Unorthodox one. Plus as you mentioned it weighs a little less and costs less. Also when I approached Unorthodox about making a complete pulley set for us Max owners they dismissed me rather quickly and I wasn't to happy about that. The last reason is that I like the idea of supporting a small, new company. Oh yeah, I was also very happy with Defintive's customer service.

BTW, I've heard that many people with some serious sound systems have gone with a UDP without problems.

that's helpful. my biggest question was the difference in quality, but i guess there isn't by your testimonial. and it is much cheaper ($100 difference). also, nick at definitive motorsports is very helpful. and i guess that when you're a company like unorthodox, bein' nice isn't always priority. but when you talk serious sound systems, how many watts? i could see how pushin' less than 500watts wouldn't be a problem, but anything bigger, and the stock charging system "lags" (dimming lights, etc.) w/o serious upgrades (caps, batteries, alternator, etc). anyway, i don't wanna get off tracking from the purpose of this thread, but thanks for your help! i'm going to do a little more research and see what i can find out as well.

I run a RF 700S amp (700 watts RMS) and a 550X (250 watts RMS) at the same time. Plus I have the Definitive UDP. And I do have a cap, but mainly because I've got almost 1000 watts RMS running in my system (and I want to make sure that the battery doesn't die prematurely). I've also got an alarm, remote start, re-wired fogs/corners, etc. So unless you're pushing 1500+ watts RMS, I don't think that the UDP will do any damage/limiting to your car.

well, the stock charging system of the maxima is about 120A, which is bigger than a lot of stock charging systems out today. but i have a problem with lights dimming when big bass hits, and that along is a good indication that more is needed. but studman, from your testimonial, if you do not experience this, i might have to reconsider and go with an udp which is not stock diameter. hmmmmm.....
