My K&N cone open-top FILTER is.... GREAT ! ! !
My K&N cone open-top FILTER is.... GREAT ! ! !
Well, I removed my BERK Intake & Midpipe as well as my K&N open-top filter today (selling & upgrading to FirmFabrications.com)
I checked the inside of the midpipe & it was almost sparkling! No sings of any gunk like others here have seen with different filters (Blitz metal & Apexi come to mind)
The MAF looked clean & when I wiped everything down with a white cloth, it remained white. Overall I'm very impressed with the filter. Awesome sound and great filtering capabilities. I have about 15,000mi on it, and it is totally black on the outside. (used to be red) I have already purchased another one, which I'll use with the FirmFab intake. I'm ordering the midpipe & hardware only. I DO NOT TRUST METAL-SCREEN FILTERS.
I just thought I'd give some of you guys the good news, in case you wanted to upgrade. The filter I used is K&N RR-3003
So I'm back to stock for now (SUX) until my new custom-intake arrives without the vacuum line. I'll keep y'alls posted.
Later,
G

also 02MaXiMa_GLE, i agree about the metal screen filters. i use both the filter that came with the berk and also the rr3003. my maf is perfectly clean but i do get some buildup on the screen just before the maf.

I called them about 6 months ago and asked to same question. Actually, I think I emailed them. Anyway, it was well over $100 just for the midpipe, iirc. I passed.

I think that's way too much for freakin 10" pipe! But if I wait another week, the price might jump to $240...I think I'm having second thoughts now... too late to slap the BERK back on there... i've already sold it.

Just to warn you...I think my firm fabrications intake blew my MAF after only 400 miles of use.
I was driving at about 60mph and i downshifted to 3rd and took it up to about 5500 rpms. All of a sudden the car just died and i couldn't rev above 2k rpms. I put the stock intake back on and the car is at the dealer now.
I also gave them the hesitation tsb, so i'm hoping to kill two birds with one stone and get the MAF replaced for the 2x time. Sometimes i wonder if an intake is worth it.

Did you use their screen-metal filter, or did you use your own?
I'm thinking the failures have a lot to due with the type of filter used.
Thanks,

I used the screen metal filter it came with. I really didn't think i would have a problem. I don't know what to do anymore. I know i'm tired of visiting the dealer. I should get a preferred member card for Star Nissan
Well, I'm trying to see if I can get other sources to build me one of these custom midpipes. Or I may create my own Hybrid CAI setup with my stock MAF, K&N & some 3" tubing... It all depends on the funds & time I have available.
