weirdest and stupidest thing happened to me!
weirdest and stupidest thing happened to me!
Ok, the most retarded thing happened to me and my Max this past Friday. I was driving home from work around 4.30, and hit major traffic in pretty much everywhere in downtown Boston, and surrounding areas. Apparently, Red Sox were rained out, and everyone just happened to be leaving that moment.
It was pouring rain out, and I was stopped at a traffic light, with a lot of cars in front, and a lot in the back. The road at this point was very rough, a lot of small potholes, and just uneven in general. So, the car in front of me starts moving, and just as I start creeping forward, I feel a VERY slight bump. I didn't even notice it at first cause I also had the music blasting, but I looked back and saw the car behind me sort of close to me. I thought "no way, he couldn't have tapped me", so I didn't bother getting out of the car since it was pouring rain, and I didn't want to look like an idiot who got out to look at his bumper. I figured I hit some roughness on the asphalt, and that's all. As I got past the light, I decided to pull over and take a look. I didn't see anything, so I went on my way home.
Later on, I went to the gym, and when I parked my car there, I noticed a slight scratch on my bumper right where the car would have hit me. There's no dent there, but a slight scratch (you can see it from like 5-10 feet away if you know it's there), but it doesn't strike the eye. The scratch is right on the edge of the bumper, where the bend is.
So, basically I let some fool hit me, and didn't do anything about it. I just didn't think it was possible, and due to the fact that it was raining, and the tap was barely noticeable, I overlooked it.
I feel like a complete idiot, and have not forgiven myself for this ****!
Sorry, just had to vent a little, and maybe some of you can make me feel better!

If it is any consolation, with the quality of our paint, a bug farting in the wrong direction would probably do some damage.
I would have gotten out, but that is me. I can also see with a stereo high enough you might think it was the bass thump you might have felt.
In any event, you are lucky that was all that was done.

I just feel like an idiot in RETROSPECT for not getting out to just check, but at the time I didn't want to look like an idiot who got out of his car and looked at his rear bumper (remember, there were a lot of cars behind me), plus it was raining.
That sucks. I swear the Maxima is a magnet for accidents. Perhaps it's just because I read the .Org, but it seems like everyone has had some minor damage (and some not so minor) to their Max. I backed mine into my g/f's Lexus...talk about stupid. I got that fixed in February...now I've gotta get the bill for her car
I was also in traffic in downtown Boston that day. It was awful and my car definitely took a few nose dives into the potholes (filled with water so I couldn't see them) all along storrow drive. Also my friend's dog put his two front paws on my passenger side door like he was pouncing on someone's leg. It wasnt a leg though it was my car and now I have two paw scratches on that door. But Im not about to get mad at a dog...nissan paint ****es me off...to top off this weekend I got speeding ticket from a dyke Mass state cop for $250..why me?
I feel for ya man.
I came out of a Walgreen's one night and saw a car with it's lights on behind my parked car. The other car was in the middle of the parking lot (not parked). As I approached my car, the other car quietly drives away. This scenario seems totally normal but I felt something weird come over me (Like my car was calling me for help). I was really tired, so I ignored it. Later that night, I find a huge dent in my rear bumper. I felt SOOO stupid for not inspecting the car when I got that weird feeling.
So the moral is: Don't take any chances. The max really IS a magnet for dents and scratches.

Yeh guys, I guess it really is a magnet. It feels kind of good to hear your stories, makes me not think I'm such a retard cause weird **** does happen.
But I swear, the more paranoid I get about the car, the more bad **** happens to it. It feels like I just shouldn't give a crap, and everything would be better. I know my friends don't worry nearly as much about where they park their cars, and their cars condition is just like mine, maybe even less bumper scratches.
Shift_VQ: Yeh, the traffic was terrible that day...I've never seen it like that before. My father said memorial drive was backed up too. My incident happened on Beacon St, intersection with Park Drive. That sucks about the ticket. Mass Pike is nothing to **** with...they always have mad cops patrolling there. I use extra caution when travelling there. Just try to contest it, and see what happens--hopefully you can BS your way out of it.
What I'm curious about is whether Nissan paint sucks or whether it's all new cars that have ****ty paint. I mean if I was driving some other car, would there be no impact to the paint in the same situation? Or if someone taps me during parking, seems like any paint will get damaged. No?
