2K & Up Muffler Fitment......

Ok, I am still undecided between a magnaflow and a 2k muffler.

Does the 2k mufflers have a center inlet?

If it does have a center inlet, would it fit properly with the WSP b-pipe?

Would the 2k muffler bolt right up to my stock b-pipe?

Are all 2k and up mufflers the same?

Thanks,

Clayton

Re: 2K & Up Muffler Fitment......

It does not bolt right up to the stock b-pipe -- I believe it is a side inlet. That being said, my mechanic charged me $20 to bend a pipe and weld it between the b-pipe and the muffler. The muffler hangers on the 2k work on our car, so that's not a problem. I think it really depends on your personal preference -- the fitment issue isn't serious enough to not consider the 2k muffler IMO.

Actually, since ours IS a side-inlet, and your mechanic had to bend a pipe to fit it to the 2K, then it would make sense if it was the 2K was a center-inlet muffler...

The reason I ask is because I would probably just order the b-pipe from WSP when I get my Y, cat, and muffler

ummm ours are a center inlet unless the GXE is different which i doubt...

customization to the b-pipe will be needed as stated

Ok, thanks for the clarification...when I talked to WSP about the b-pipe, they said that it only worked with center-inlet mufflers, so I assumed that ours wasn't. I stand corrected...thanks.

I like that muffler, but I'm not crazy about having my b-pipe fabricated to fit it. Wouldn't that restrict the airflow? have you guys noticed much of a difference over your stock muffler?

if done properly there shouldn't be any restricition... i noticed some gain but that's because i scrapped the resonator and upgraded to 2.5" piping. i chose the muffler for stock look and sound not for performance. of course mufflers really don't add much performance anyway...

I have the same exact setup as Chris91se (thanks again for the help!). Like he told me, it is only slightly louder than stock. It is a little more aggressive sounding, without sounding raspy. I have WSP Y, carsound cat, 2.5" B to the 2k muffler, and I am very happy with it.

Nope- I had one custom bent at a muffler shop, and welded to the muffler.

so of the guys here have heard my car. my car pretty much sounds stock when idling and then up to 3k. over 3k the CAI and Y pipe take over and 4500 and up the muffler opens up. no noise except for a rush of air coming out. i'd give the exhaust setup a 3 or 4 with a 1 being stock

The magnaflows would be louder, and I think they look great.

I am very interested in a new/used muffler. I am just interested in the sound. the 2k2 mufflers look great but sound like they might not be as loud as i want. I am not looking for crazy loud but i do want a loud deep exhaust note. I was curious for those of you with loud exhaust, what you have. Magnaflow sounds good, What about flowmaster. and on the 2k2 note, are there any louder stock mufflers that would be recommended from a junkyard (any make model car)that I could pick up?

Before: 2k1 Muffler (2k2 tips), 2.25" B, WSP Y, Hi Flow Cat. This setup sounded so nice! Especially since it was a VG, sounded very powerful, I liked it I considered that a 5 or 6.

Currently: 2k1 Muffler (2k2 tips), Stock B, Stock Y, Hi Flow Cat. I give this setup a 3 with stock being 1 for the VE. I also think that the hi-flow cat gives it a more "chuggy" sound.

Just go to ebay...anything you'll find there will be much louder than what you have stock.

Its cool. I dont like the tips anymore either. The muffler came with those tips when i bought it. I am going to change them out with the oval finisher.

howd you get 02 tips on the 01 muffler? i like the dual tip look opposed to the "square" 00-01 tip cover.. better yet i wonder if a 02-03 muffler will fit..

Not sure. they were swapped out before I bought the muffler from an .org member. The muffler had 5k on it when I got it.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the only difference between the 2k-2k1 muffler and the 2k2-2k3 muffler are the tips.

I took the oval tip off of my 2k1 and had some angled tips welded on instead. The tip was only pressed on (not welded), although it was pretty tight. I would assume that the 2k2+ tips are held on in the same fashion.

That is right sir. The 2k-2k1's also have a bolt on a bar for the oval finisher to attach to.
