Engine Revs between shifts

My 2002 SE engine revs 500-750RPMS when shifting between 2-3 gear. The dealer told me all maximas rev between shifts, I think they are full of S**t. Has any one else had this problem?

do you have an auto or manual? My 6sp used to rev 100-300 rpm higher as I disengaged the clutch but doesn't seem to do it anymore or I'm not noticing it as much. Someone awhile back said this was intentionally programmed into the car's system for emmissions reasons. I don't know if this is true or not.

I've got the same thing with my Max. When I originally posted it people said that it was "hesitation" and caused by the throttle-by-wire system (and then I got flamed for not searching). I think hesitation is a separate problem than this.

I guess I got used to it, but I would also be curious to see if others have the same thing.

Same here. I have gotten to where I sub-consciously compensate for it now, hence it doesn't do it anymore. Every now and then I catch myself not paying attention after not driving it for a while and it revs between shifts. Just the nature of the beast I guess. My guess is it's programmed that way to either cut down on jerking or possibly for emissions reasons as stated above.

Your dealer is correct.

Huh?? Dunno what you're seeing but....no

way does MY engine rev between shifts....sounds to me that your throttle/clutch coordination is off -rather substantially so if its jumping 500-700 rpms between shifts!

Now, that said, indeed, all Maxes have a 'damper' (new ones electronic) to delay -slow down- the retardation in RPMs when u let off the gas suddenly as when u shift (and yes, its for emmissions) but that's one thing altogether different from what you're experiencing....certainly not something to cause engine speed increases!

I get the same thing, but under certain circumstances. First of all, if I'm pressing the accelerator hard, and then step on the clutch as I get off the gas, then the revs will jump up slightly, but it seems to me like it's just the engine having less friction/resistance now, and it's momentum gets the better of it for a few rpms.

If I'm cruising at some rpm without giving it gas, and then step on the clutch, rpms fall right away, albeit not as fast as on other cars, but there's no rise, just a relatively slow descent.

I hate to disagree with you, Galo, but the phenomenon NavyMax describes has been documented many times since the 5th Gen Maxima was first introduced. If it's not happening to you, consider yourself fortunate.
